In 1925, Gourmet opened its own shop on Main Street – the first such establishment in Mississippi – and began shipping products all over the USA. In 1941, Gourmet merged with another prominent brand, Keurig, which helped popularize electric coffee machines throughout America. Clinton coffee history began with the first coffeehouse in the town in 1868. The business was started by a group of farmers and their families who were looking for a place to get their morning caffeine fix. The first store opened on Main Street, just west of the present day Clinton Library. Many of the early pioneers in this small town are buried at Fairview Cemetery.

Clinton was founded in 1825 by Jacob Gates and his family, and has been an agricultural community ever since. It is named after President James K. Polk who visited the area in 1847. The town became a city on May 14, 1907, when it amalgamated with Jackson. Clinton is home to the Mississippi Democratic Party's headquarters as well as several churches and businesses such as a grocery store and a post office. Clinton also has two high schools - government school Clinton High School and white vocational school Clinton-Akins Vocational School - as well as one elementary school, Mrs. John Fenton Elementary School (grades kindergarten through fourth grade). The town had its first professional football team called the Clinton Tigers which played from 1951 to 1957 before folding due to lack of players or money. However, local residents have continued to support their local high school teams which continue to play today including Clinton East High School who reached the Class AA state playoffs for the first time this season last year; they will face off against Destrehan High School on Friday nightNovember 3rd in what should be another exciting game for local fans!

The first espresso machines were built by Giovanni della Robbia in 1565, and coffee became popularized throughout Europe after a trip to Mecca by Leonardo da Vinci in 1492. Coffee beans were imported back into Europe from Africa through the Middle East and India during the 16th century. In 1795, several Dutchmen founded a small coffee trade company near Amsterdam called Koffiekoper Nederlandse Spelers (Coffee Players Dutch). This company started importing Arabica beans from Java and Sumatra as well as European roasted beans. In 1825, John Peter Zenger published an articleitled "The Origin of Coffee" whichruffled some feathers among many1800s drinkers of peruvian or Ethiopian beans who thought Starbucks was invented by someone from those countries. However, Starbucks was actually founded on April 6th 1978 by two friends - Jerry Greenstein and Ron Shaikin - at a meeting at Peet's Coffee & Tea House in Seattle WA. They decided to start a small business making single serve cups of coffee with no milk or cream. In 1980 they opened their first store - located on 45th Avenue Northeast - and quickly gained notoriety for their high quality standards and great customer service
