The Clinton Army National Guard unit, the Florida Brigade, was mobilized in 1941 when World War II began. The brigade served in the Pacific Theater of Operations and played an important role in the Battle of Midway. In 1945, the brigade participated in the peacekeeping mission in South Korea. On 1 October 1951, the brigade was reorganized as a regiment and redesignated 501st Infantry Division (Airborne) on 1 January 1952. It concurrently became part of United States Army European Command (USAREUR). The division served with distinction during Operation Overlord and Liberation of Paris. On 15 September 1970, 501st Infantry Division (Airborne) was returned to United States control and assignment to III Corps headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The division deployed to Europe for Operation Desert Storm on 20 December 1990 as part of XVIII Airborne Corps under command of First Lieutenant General John Wuerth III. After returning home from Desert Storm on 10 January 1991,501st Infantry Division (Airborne) continued its distinguished service by participating in numerous deployments throughout 1992-1998 including International Peacekeeper operations in Kosovo; SFOR Southern Croatia; Joint Force Exercise Bright Stars ’92; NATO airlift exercises Allied Command Air Stations HAF-4 & HH-60G Knightsbridge; etc.. On 17May2000 Camp David Summit between Ulysses S Grant and Franklin D Roosevelt took place at McLean County near Washington Dc., where President Clinton stayed for a few days while he visited his grandchildren . Clinton, Mississippi is a small town in the western part of Jackson County, Mississippi. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Pearl River and is home to a number of businesses and homes. Clinton has been a center for cotton farming since before Jackson County was organized. The first cotton gin in Clinton was built by John Ladd in 1872.Clinton's economy shifted from agriculture to manufacturing when oil discoveries were made in the area in the early 1970s. Manufacturing production peaked around 1980 but has declined since then as companies moved out of Jackson County. The town's only remaining industry is local grocery store chain Grocery Outlet Stores Inc.. Clinton is named after former President Ulysses S. Grant who visited it while campaigning for reelection in 1868. Grant donated land to the town and dedicated it to public education, making it one of his most important policies as president. In 1902, Clinton became one of several towns across Mississippi to join forces with Greenwood to form a municipal government under Reconstruction laws that followed Reconstruction South Africa which ended in 1911%. The post-Civil Rights Movement political landscape changed dramatically in Mississippi duringthe Nixon administration with Attorney General Ramsey Clark orders targeting African Americans throughout much of America including efforts against voter registration drives and random stops without probable cause raids being conducted throughout Jackson County using paramilitary force called "Voter Suppression Units". These events have been generally known as "Operation Butterfield" or simply "Butterfield". This operation resulted in many arrests and damage done to community property such as churches, schools, clinics and homes although no serious violence occurred due largely to resistance by citizens seeking peaceful assembly under constitutional rights guaranteed by the 14th Amendment ( Equal Protection Clause). During this time period there also began an increase within local police departments specifically within rural areas around Jackson Countiy policed with paramilitary units known informally as Task Force X or just TFX for short which operated outside traditional law enforcement guidelines engaging primarily low level crime rates instead utilizing secret warrants not authorized by any individual officer or department head even if supported or condoned by higher ups; methods that continue today primarily through secret informant networks now operating beyond our detection capabilities
