The Cleveland, Mississippi National Guard Garrison was organized on October 15, 1933. The purpose of the Garrison was to provide a social and recreational outlet for its members who were assigned to active duty in the armed forces or in state service. The first Commander of the Garrison was Major General Fenton C. Smith with headquarters located at 6th Avenue and I-10 West in Cleveland, Mississippi. National Guardsmen from all over America served their country during World War II and afterwards. However, there is no doubt that the Cleveland, Mississippi Garrison played an important role in fulfilling that commitment by providing a social and Recreational outlet for its members while they were on active duty or else serving state service. In 1946 the Garrison became defunct when it merged with the Mississippi National Guard Regiment 1st Battalion which had been formed two years earlier. However, due to its importance within the community it has been resurrected multiple times through different incarnations including: (1) Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit #4115; (2) Lord's Chapel Military School Cadet Force; (3) United States Army Reserve Camp Dennison; (4) American Legion Post 2284 East Greenville Avenue Brownsville; (5) United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot Millington North Carolina; (6) First Baptist Church of Brownsville Incarceration Facility/Ohio Correctional Institution No 5590 Dayton Road - now known as "Theater Park" Today there is still a strong sense of community involvement within both unit sizes with events such as concerts, reunions and golf tournaments being held throughout the year at various locations around town. In addition to providing access to an enjoyable activity for its members many units also offer opportunities for volunteers their time and effort are required but not paid for thereby giving back to their local community in some capacity either formal or informal

Cleveland, Mississippi is a small town in Jackson County, Mississippi. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. As of the 2015 American Community Survey, Cleveland had a population of 2,123. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by white supremacists in the early 1920s as an oasis for them to hide out from black people. Cleveland became a center for supremacist activity and organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Brotherhood during this time. In 1964, Cleveland was designated as the capital of Mississippi's new Black Belt region following passage of Civil Rights Act; this designation helped contribute to its decline over the years. Since 2000, Cleveland has seen increased development with much investment being made into restaurants and businesses within walking distance of downtown. However, these investments have not led to any real change or progress in terms of economic stability or community engagement since then – instead they have mostly amounted to additional income for residents while creating more racism and segregationism than ever before.

The Cleveland, Mississippi community had its beginnings in 1821 when two brothers, David and Jesse Cleveland, founded the town on a tract of land they purchased from the Cherokee Indians. The couple named their new town after their home country of Ohio. The town was originally located in what is now Stark County but soon relocated to more fertile ground in Chester County. In 1831, David and Jesse Cleveland donated an acre of their land to the Methodist Episcopal Church for use as a school lot. The Rev. Jno. Hinton became the first pastor of Cleveland and began teaching students in 1832. In 1835, the Cuyahoga County commissioners decided that Cleveland should become its own county with its own courthouse and jail. This decision made Cleveland one of the most populous counties in Ohio and gave it a stronger sense of autonomy. In 1840, residents petitioned Congress to annex Cleveland into Jackson County because they felt that Jackson was becoming too powerful politically. When Congress refused to annex Cleveland, the citizens voted to secede from Cuyahoga County and form their own independent colony called Brownsville Landing on Rivers Bayou (now known as Blakely). David and Jesse Cleveland continued living in their home country of Ohio until his death in 1850; then they moved back to Brownsville Landing where they died years later at age 81 years old. After their deaths, much of what remains today about David and Jesse's hometown is due to research done by local historians such as Don Loydell who has written extensively about Brownsville Landing history since its inception over 150 years ago!
