The Clarksdale Army National Guard was organized on April 12, 1865, at the former Clarksdale Arsenal by Major General John F. Johnson. The entire unit was mustered into service for three years and eight months. On December 13, 1866, the Clarksdale Regiment became part of the Third Brigade in the First Division of the Mississippi Valley Militia under Brigadier General A. P. Hill. From February through May 1867, the regiment served from Corinth to Starkville in central Mississippi as a training battalion for infantry and cavalry officers cadets at West Point and Uniontown Military Academy respectively. In July 1867, Colonel Edward Everett “Eddie” Johnston was appointed Commanding Officer of Company D of the Clarksdale Regiment with orders to move it to Texas in order to take part in the Texas Revolution against Mexico; however, this plan never came to fruition because Johnston died before he could leave Louisiana. In November 1867, Captain Charles Hines replaced Eddie Johnston as Commanding Officer of Company D; during his tenure (November 1-December 25), five soldiers were killed while serving with Company D on duty at Fort Davis near Austin, Texas; one soldier drowned while crossing a stream two miles east of present-day Clarksdale; two others were wounded when their horse took a fall during battle just west of town on December 15th near Hempstead Prairie; and one soldier died from an illness contracted while guarding supplies at San Antonio Mission Station early that year. On October 3rd 1861 Major General Nathaniel Banks ordered all Confederate forces within 10 miles of Memphis evacuated due to preparations for war with England which began two days later. The first units offloaded their equipment at Louisville Navy Yard on October 11th 1861 and proceeded north along I-65 towards Memphis where they arrived on October 14th after spending nine days steamingvia New Orleans en route from Knoxville Tennesseethe original destination being Chattanooga Tennesseewa point beyond which Confederate forces had been ordered not to cross without first requesting permission from Richmond Va.; however upon arriving at Memphis they learned that there had been no war with England but instead a rebellion against Governor Robert E Jones who did not believe that Confederate Generals Blair & Sturgis really intended to fight any War with England although Bank did not mention this explicitly in his order given only two days earlier.(See Order Noorderschrift No: 8) This event is often cited as beginning what would be known as "The Arkansas Expedition" or "Army Movements Northward"). It should be noted that most members of these units never actually left Tennessee but instead continued training until late winter or early spring 1862 when they finally departed for Arkansas(See also History Channel's documentary series Topeka Ark.) . WhenGeneral Banks issued his order he likely knew full well that another rebellion was imminent since numerous troops who had enlisted under him recently in Davidson CountyTennessee (See also Volunteers: Tennessee Infantryman's history)were already deserting en masse due to poor living conditionsand lack of food and other essentials available inside Confederate lines facing possible annihilation by Yankees if war broke out.(See also CSA Order No 186). Clarksdale is a small town in Mississippi, United States. The population was 27,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Clarksdale is named after General James G. Blount, who led Ulysses S. Grant's army during the American Civil War and later became a US Senator from Georgia. Clarksdale was founded as a small farming community in 1868 by John Caulfield and his family. The name came from Claiborne County in Kentucky (parts of which now form Clarksdale). The first post office in Clarksdale opened on November 12, 1870, and was called "Aiken". The current post office was established on May 10, 1907; it has been called "Clarksville" since 1951. In 1881, Clarens Hester Clarke donated land to build what would become the first high school in Clarksdale – now known as Greene-Clark High School – with funds he had saved from selling his share of the plantation that he had inherited when his father died two years earlier. In 1916, Stonehill Baptist Church built its first church building; it still stands today and is used as a classroom and rehearsal space for local bands and orchestras. The Clarke family ran a grocery store until 1942 when they bought the Shelby Farms cotton gin from J B Tate & Sons Incorporated for $5,000 cash only - an event that forever changed Clarksdale because it allowed African Americans to own their own businesses within their own communities across America for the first time! In 1957–58 clarkstown moved into new brick buildings near present day First Baptist Church just off Eastern Avenue which housed both schools until 1959 when Third Grade Elementary moved out to make way for Second Grade Middle School currently known as Northeast Middle School which also houses Fourth Grade HS students along with Seventh grade Academy students who are currently housed inside North Central Middle/HS building adjacent to Valley View Mall! This move finally happened due to funding appropriation given by then Governor Haley Longley through Bill Clinton which increased state support towards public education in Mississippi! Over time Northeast Middle School grew larger while concurrently Grove Parkelementary (now known as SS Matthews) became increasingly smaller making Fifth/ Sixth grades too large culturally speaking so action was taken culminating with recent fire damage done to NortheastMiddleSchool makingroomfor EighthGrade HS students inside Southeast High School now know as Northwest High School

Clarksdale is a town in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. It is the seat of Hinds County. The population was 31,481 as of the 2010 census. The first white settler in Clarksdale was James Fenton in 1821. The community grew rapidly due to trade with nearby Mobile and Yazoo City. In 1836, Clarksdale became the capital of Hinds County after a referendum approved its creation by the state legislature. During the American Civil War, Clarksdale served as a Union stronghold and saw heavy combat from General Nathan Bedford Forrest's Confederate army. After hostilities ended in 1865, Clarksdale slowly regained its former prosperity thanks to cotton cultivation and new manufacturing jobs on the local riverfront. However, during the 1990s recession it experienced significant decline and has since been struggling to recover economically. Since 2000, however, Mayor Jordon Unsworth has worked to revive interest in downtown Clarksdale and create new economic opportunities for the townspeople.Currently there are several businesses open including: Bed Bath & Beyond (opened in 2005), Carrara Coffee Company (opened May 2007), AutoZone (opened 2003), ExxonMobil Refinery (opened 2006), Sears Holdings Corporation ( opened 2011) and many more!
