Brookhaven, Mississippi is a small town located in the Jackson County seat of Starkville. It was founded in 1892 and has been home to the Brookhaven Coffee Company since 1903. The company was started by two men, George W. Barnes and Harry J. Carrigan, as a way for them to get their hands on some of the best coffee beans in the world. Brookhaven Coffee Company has been mentioned in Time Magazine, Forbes, and other publications as one of America's "100 Best Places To Work". The first coffee beans were grown right here in Brooksvile by George W. Barnes and Harry J. Carrigan. They found that the beans they grew worked better than those from any other place because they had a very rich flavor and were not roasted too much or too little. The coffee beans we sell today were actually ground up back then and taken to Starkville to be roasted by our friends at Green whenever they needed more caffeine than we could provide ourselves! Today, Brookhaven Coffee Company still roasts its own coffee using only the finest Arabica beans from around the world. The history of Brookhaven goes back to 1857 when it was founded as a post office on an Indian hunting ground by Samuel and Anna Hubbard. The name "Brookhaven" comes from the fact that several brooks running through the community supplied water for irrigation purposes. In 1872, two brothers, John and James Gentry bought land in Brookhaven and began to build a cotton plantation named Gentry & Sons which became one of the largest cotton plantations in America. In 1906, George Vanderbilt donated land to create Vanderbilt University in honor of his father's donation. Brookhaven also had a Carnegie library open from 1907 until 1927 and an ice cream parlor opened in 1928 by Mrs. Harry Calkins with local produce from her garden

Brookhaven is a town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Brookhaven was founded in 1892 by white men from Georgia and Alabama who moved to the area to build a cotton plantation. The town became an important stop on the Memphis Railroad. In 1927, Brookhaven's post office closed and its ZIP code was changed to 72723. The first inhabitants of what would become Brookhaven were two families of slaves who worked on a cotton plantation next door in 1892-93. When the plantation owner died, his black slaves decided they wanted their freedom and left for good. One family returned after nine years but another family led by their new master bought them all back into slavery again because they could not find enough work elsewhere on the plantation. They named their new home "Brookhaven". After many years of being owned by different people, in 1925 all of Brookhaven's slaves were freed and allowed to live free among themselves as free blacks within Jackson County limits which excluded any other areas from becoming black towns so that African Americans could have more opportunities than they had before (this policy continued until 1965). This event helped make Brookhaven known as an educational and cultural center for African Americans throughout Jackson County - something that has kept it strong since then! In 1927, when Brooksville was established nearby as a railroad town located between Clarksdale and Decatur (the future Jackson), residents decided to change their postal ZIP code to 72723 because it coincided with Brooksville's nameakes! Today, Brooke University calls itself "The University atbrookhavana", while Brookhaven Elementary School continues to serve as both its namesake schoolhouse and physical education facilities for students from grades Pre-K through 8th grade; it also provides pre-kindergarten instruction for students living elsewhere withinJacksonCounty during school days! A number of businesses began operating around 1906 when oil was discovered near Clearwater Springs in Morgan County; this madeBrooksville an important stop for transportation Eastward along I-55/I-24 which connectedJacksonCity with Memphis across state lines at that time! Over time many other businesses opened up including gas stations, restaurants, boutiques etc., making Brookevilleville one of the most vibrant small towns in Mississippi right up until the late 1990s when economic recession hit causes many businesses closures or move out altogether leaving behind empty storefrontsá

It has since shrunk as a result of declining economic fortunes, but it remains a small town with a significant cultural heritage.
