Worthington is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The community was founded as a railroad station on the Chicago and Western Railway in 1881. Worthington's first post office was established in 1882. Worthington has been home to numerous businesses including Wacoal, Hennepin County Health Department, and T-Mobile.[1] The community started as a small settlement around the railway depot on what is now First Avenue West and Railroad Street. In 1881, when the Chicago and Western Railway (C&WP) opened its line through Ramsey County, it connected with other railroads southeast of Winnipeg by way of Worthington Station on the C&WP's South Branch. With this new connection came growth for both towns; Worthington grew rapidly due to its location close to major transportation arteries, while nearby Brownston became more rural and had less access to amenities such as transportation or education.[2] In 1896, when Minneapolis-Saint Paul annexed parts of Brownston Township west of downtown, Worthington became part of Minneapolis' new city limits - exactly one hundred years after it had been founded as a railroad town east of downtown![3] By 1910, however, despite steady growth and progress made by both towns over that century, there were still few jobs available in either place,[4] let alone in an industry that has spanned centuries from early train services linking eastern Canada with markets downwest (and vice versa).[5] This changed with the opening of Interstate Highway 50 just north of Worthington in 1957;[6][7][8][9][10][11] not only did this increased traffic lead to new job opportunities for local people,[12][13][14] but also companies began locating near I-50 because it offered easy access to customers across state lines without having to go through much intermediary service.[15][/blockquote][/section][/paragraph][/row], [section title=“1891 Census” start=“page 159″ end=“page 368″ ] [[File:MNL_Township_Worthington_1891_Census_(2).jpg|thumb|right|100px]] [[File:MNL_Township_Worthington_1891_Census_(3).jpg|thumb|right|300px]] :There are no exact dates for when particular buildings were built within WorTHINGTON COMMUNITY but they appeared very quickly after 1861 when tracks arrived here from St Louis MO . Worthington is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,653 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Ramsey County by area and fourth-largest community in the state of Minnesota. The township was organized on August 15, 1872. The first settler arrived in what would become Worthington on April 14, 1853. John Worthington and his family were among the early pioneers of what would become Worthington Township. They built their first log cabin on a knoll overlooking Clearwater Lake. A Methodist Episcopal church was founded here in 1876 and named for Rev. George Morrison (1836-1912). In 1903, a new school building was constructed on Main Street to serve as the township's only high school for boys from grades 9 through 12; this building still stands today as one of Worthington's primary landmarks. During World War II, many local businesses took part in supplying materials and services to troops stationed overseas. Many citizens also volunteered their time and resources to support military efforts including picking up aluminum cans off the ground or delivering newspapers while driving cars with oversized lids to military bases across the state. One such business owner who benefitted from wartime largesse was Wm Tarrant & Son general store which became known as "the war store". The store closed its doors during World War II but reopened after hostilities Ended seventy years later as an antique store located inside of an old mental hospital that had been converted into retail space
