Woodbury, Minnesota is a town located in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from the Wyoming War of 1876. Woodbury was established in 1881 when two wagon trains were driven into the area by prospectors looking for uranium ore. The first store and post office in Woodbury opened on December 3, 1881. It was named after Genesee County, New York pioneer John A. Woodbury. The townsite of Woodbury became part of Dakota County when it was organized on February 15, 1907. In 1916 both Green River and Billings had their own small townsites within Dakota County before its unification with that county. On November 17, 1920 a fire destroyed most of downtown Billings and all but 12 buildings in downtown Green River; this event is also known as the "Great Plains Fire". In 1956 construction began on what would become Woodbury's first high school building which would serve the community until it built its current one-story structure in 1969. The high school served students from kindergarten through twelveth grade until it closed in 2007 due to budget cuts and then reopened as an alternative Learn & Grow program serving grades K-12indergarten through four years old with pre-kindergarten available upon request (see below). As of 2019 there are currently sixteen schools (six elementary schools, eight middle schools, four high schools) operating out of twenty-one buildings including three new buildings constructed since 2006: One serves students up to five years old while another provides PreK/K through 6th grade services; two additional elementary campuses will open during the 2020s providing an enrollment total for Elementary School District 231 now exceed hundred ninety seven thousand nine hundred fifty six thousand students! On January 8th 2021 a resolution passed by the Fargo City Council recognizing that woodbury has been losing population due to lack of jobs opportunities and also requesting state assistance under section 463c(a)(5)Minnesota Statutes regarding job placement/training programs for local employees displaced by automation or other economic changes

Woodbury is a town in Brown County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,493 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Woodbury was John Hellman, who arrived in 1858. He platted the town site on land that he had bought from the Dakota Sioux. The town's name comes from a wood near by which Hellman sawed logs to make his own firewood. In 1872, the first post office was established in Woodbury; it served as the only outpost of the community until 1915. In 1865, Ulysses S. Grant visited Woodbury while on his way to battle at Gettysburg and stopped here for lunch before continuing his journey westward. On July 4th of that year, President Abraham Lincoln made an appearance at a party given by General James Wickersham at the old Union Pacific Railroad Depot within walking distance of Woodbury's courthouse square (now part of downtown). A large crowd had gathered to see him; many Local 802 lumbermen were there to show their support for their president's policies as they looked on. After giving a few remarks and receiving polite applause from listeners, Lincoln proceeded into nearby Waterloo for dinner with some Generals and other dignitaries before returning home via train back east. Lumberjacks have been instrumental in shaping Woodbury's economy since its establishment as a small community more than 125 years ago. By 1900, local mills had produced over two million board feet of lumber per year—twenty-four times more than today’s production! Today’s mills produce nearly one hundred thousand board feet per day and employ close to two hundred people directly or through subcontractors throughout northeastern Minnesota!
On November 3, 1854, the town of Woodbury was organized and named in honor of General George H. Woodbury, who had served as a cavalry officer in the Mexican-American War. The town rapidly grew due to its location on the border of Minnesota and Iowa and its natural resources such as timber, coal and oil. By 1865, Woodbury had a population of 1,000 people. In 1907, lumber companies built a sawmill in what is now known as downtown Woodbury. The mill continued to operate until it closed in 1917.
