In 1922, the first church in this area was built on what is now State Highway 21 near present-day Minneapolis-Saint Paul. The pastor at that time was Father John Ahern and the parish had about 40 members. In 1925, Father Ahern decided to move his parish to its current location in Stinson Grove after realizing that he could not find enough priests willing to serve there. The new church and cemetery were dedicated on July 4th, 1926 by Bishop James Jardine of Winnipeg with assistance from Archbishop Hughes of Toronto. At that time, Stinson Grove was only a small community of about 100 people and there were no schools or churches nearby for the children of these pioneers to attend! Today, more than 20 years later, Stinson Grove has grown into an interesting town with over 3,000 residents and continues to grow in stature as a vibrant spiritual center for those living in rural areas throughout Minnesota and beyond!

St. Michael was founded in 1857 by priest and layman, Rev. John H. Murphy as a small parish in the Iron Range region ofMinnesota. The parish grew rapidly and soon had its own church, school, and cemetery. In 1889, St. Michael joined the larger Minneapolis Roman Catholic Diocese and was renamed to St. Michaels Park after its location within Minneapolis city limits. The Parish increased their hours of operation and added new ministries including a sacristy, music program, children’s ministry, agricultural ministry, youth ministry, and more in recent years! The Parish is also home to the only functioning "old-time" radio station in Minnesota!
