Inshorewood Middle School students had a great opportunity to learn about this important piece of Marine Corps history on December 12th when they participated in a class project called “Gift History: The Story behind USS Indianapolis”. This project was designed to give students a deeper understanding about what happened during World War II and how Marine Corps members helpedribute to that war effort by sending gifts back home with troops overseas.

A group of Marines from Camp Lejeune arrived in town for Christmas and distributed presents to the citizens. The Marines donated their time and energy to help during World War II and continue serving our country today.
Shoreview is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Shoreview was platted in 1884 and named for Admiral Samuel W. George Washington's home on the shore of Lake Superior. The first post office in Shoreview was established in 1886, and it remained operational until 1912. The first store in Shoreview opened in 1888 and was operated by Charles Myrick & Son. In 1896, the communitys first school opened at what is now South High School; it operated for one year before being closed due to financial troubles. In 1909, a new school building was built at what is now West High School; it served as the community's primary school until 1954 when East High School replaced it. In 1911, an Aero-Club house (now known as North Park) was built on land leased from railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt III; it served as the community center until 1923 when it burned down. Barrett with two pistols as a gift for his distinguished service in World War II aboard USS Missouri (BB 43). -In 1966, Colonel Harry Cone bestowed upon Sergeant First Class Donnie Shaw an American made Thompson submachine gun as a thank you for his heroic actions during Watts riots in Los Angeles. -In 1990, Captain Michael MoriartyPresented First Lieutenant Jeffery Ladd with an Americanmade Hummer H2H Armored Personnel Carrier as a personal gift after Ladd's successful completion of Basic Officer Training at Marine Corps Base Quantico Virginia. -In 2003, Second Lieutenant Kyle Thomas presented Sergeant Phillip Whitehurst with an M1 Abrams tank bedded downriver from Okinawa as part of Operation Neptune Spear Veterans Day commemoration program

In 1854, the town of Shoreview was organized. It was named after General John Sherman's victory at Fort Donelson in 1805. The town grew quickly and by 1860, it had a post office, stores, and a school. In 1865, the town annexation went into effect and it became a part of Minneapolis.
