Shoreview is a town located in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is served by the Shoreview Village School District. The first settler in Shoreline was George Willoughby, who arrived in 1857 and named his new farm after his birthplace of Sunnyside on Long Island, New York.Willoughby's son JohnMaynard developed the property that now includes Shoreline and had another son, Samuel Waddell, plant wheat on what is now West Side Road in 1865. A post office called Sunnyside was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1909. In 1871 James Fenton platted what is now Shoreview Village on land he bought from Waddell near present day Interstate 94 and US Highway 169; this village would later become known as Shorewood. In 1870 Vineland Sells donated to the state of Minnesota an acre (0.40 hectare) of land at what is now Northeast 56th Street & Snelling Avenue for a county fair; this fair would be held every year between 1870-1876 under the name "Minnesota State Fair." The first general store opened inshorein 1875; it would later become known as The Gilded Cage Swimming Pool Store/Golf Course". The first school district to be organized in Shoreline was the Ramsey County Board of Education which opened its doors to students on September 3rd, 1889 with Warren Harding as superintendent In 1893 David Niven became Superintendent of Schools for Ramsey County when Drury Dorman retired from his position as Superintendent of Schools for Dakota County In 1895 Isadore Holmes became manager/director of public instruction for Ramsey County . On October 6th 1898 Elisha Hubbard became assistant superintendent . With these additions to our shoreline community came many changes including: incorporation as a village on November 1st 1899 by vote with Mrs JF Sutherland serving as treasurer while Mr H Morrison acted as moderator; prohibition - voted upon by citizens during a meeting held December 5th 1897; establishmentof electric light - both votes taking place January 10th 1898 ; incorporation into townships - proposed by board chairman Isaac Bowen during their meeting on February 9th 1898 followed by adoption at a special meeting convened March 4th 1898; voting results show that 60% or more residents approved annexation while only 24% opposed it On July 15th 1906 following passage through Congress Organic Act No XI 16 Statutes 1907 we were given our current name – “Shoreview” – becoming one full member within the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area!
