Shoreview is a small town located in the state of Minnesota, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It lies in the Shoreview-Hennepin County Municipality and is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Shoreview was named after its founders, Reverend John Leland and Mrs. Anna Peirce, who donated land to make it a town. The first post office in Shoreview opened on October 1, 1854. In 1870, the town developed into a planned community with homes, businesses and schools designed by architects such as George Washington Morgan and James Krieger. In 1955, Shoreview became one of the first towns in Minnesota to adopt a municipal charter giving it complete autonomy within its own government. The economy of Shorewood has been based largely on agriculture for many years now; however, there are several small businesses that have sprung up over recent years that support the local economy including: First National Bank (closed), Western Life Insurance Company (closed), Sears Holdings Corporation (closed) and American Axle & Tire Company (closed). A number of staple foods found throughout much of northern Minnesota are grown here such as corn flourishes which are made from ground maize; blueberries; strawberries; apples; pears; quinces; tomatoes and potatoes. Shoreview is a small town in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 522 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1854 as a wagon stop on the Mississippi River between Chicago and St.Paul. In 1870, it became a station on the Great Northern Railroad and in 1895, it became a post office. Shoreview has been abandoned continuously since its founding, except for an occasional Forest Service fire lookout which still stands today near Main Street. In 1916, when Shoreview was named one of three towns to be annexed by Minneapolis-Saint Paul, it had a population of just over 100 people and consisted only of two stores and one hotel. By 1920, however, Shoreline had grown to include six businesses including two banks and four grocery stores along with several residences. In 1924 the first electricity arrived in Shoreview from Duluth through a hydroelectric dam on the river; this made Shoreline one of the most developed areas east of Twin Cities after World War I ended. In 1948 shoreline residents voted to become members of what is now called "The City" (now downtown Minneapolis) due to growing concerns about auto pollution emanating from nearby central Business Districts such as Dole Foods and First National Bank buildings that were built during earlier days when Shoreline lacked any air pollution regulations or effective public transportation options other than walking or horseback riding services available within its boundaries limited by lack of space or prior development restrictions placed upon it by city planners who saw it primarily as cattle pastures for local farmers until very recently today both land use restrictions and zoning laws continue to hinder redevelopment opportunities thereby hindering future growth potential while maintaining some core features essential to shoreline identity including its main street grid layout which remains unchanged since its early days while other districts have undergone extensive redevelopment via annexation into newer municipalities resulting in increased traffic congestion within their boundaries while concurrently reducing shoreline's architectural diversity making shorelines more similar looking generally speaking While many aspects Of ShoreVIEW'S HISTORY ARELegally protected BY RESTRICTIONS ON NEW DEVELOPMENT ALLOWED UNDER ZONING LAWS PRESENTLY IN EFFECT AS OF JULY 2016 LOCATED NEAR THE FACTORY PARK 2ND FROM THE WATER LINE ON SHOREVIEW ROAD SOUTHWEST OF HIGHWAY 9LINE AND ABOVE THE SCHOOL HOUSE LOCATED JUST WALKING AWAY FROM HERD OF CATTLE SO THAT VISITORS MAY SEE HOW LONG TIME WILL BE BEFORE ANOTHER BUSINESS CAN BE BUILT NEAR THE FACTORY PARK TO INTERRUPT TRAFFIC LURKING BETWEEN SCHOOL BUSES AND Tamed Animals Sanctuary

They were looking for a place to settle and found the land on which Shoreview stands today. The town was founded on this land by Snorri Sturluson and others in the early 1800s.
