The history of maga coffee can be traced back to the 1800s. At that time, coffee beans were often roasted in a location called a “maga”. This term referred to an old Spanish custom of roasting beans over an open fire using hot ashes and straw. The heat from the burning beans caused the liquid inside the bean to expand and burst through the groundnut shells into which they had been roasted. It was this Expansionist Roasting method that gave maga coffee its characteristic rich flavor and unique properties. Maga Coffee first started being exported to North America in the early 1900s. In 1916, Hawaiian entrepreneur David Kaluakau purchased a small plantation in Louisiana and began producing maga coffee under the name Hawaii Coffee Company. By 1922, Hawaii Coffee had become one of America’s most successful magical coffee companies. During this time, Hawaiians also began importing Italian-owned plantations near Naples, Italy, where they would roast their own beans under similar conditions using Hot Ashes and Straw Roasting Method. It wasn’t until after World War II that Hawaiians stopped exporting their products entirely and turned their attention towards domestic production at their plantations throughout food-producing areas on Oahu including Kauai, Niihau & Niʻihau Island arcs (the Neighbor Islands). From then on it was all about maintaining continuous production as well as exporting qualityHawaii Coffee products worldwide including Europe (Switzerland), Asia (Japan), South Africa & Australia
In 1819, a Dutchman named Olivier Maga started brewing coffee in his house in the city of Amsterdam. In 1830, he added water to his beans and founded the first coffee shop in Amsterdam. His beans were ground fresh on site and served cold. Maga became well-known for his unique cup of coffee and quickly gained a following throughout Europe. In 1847, he opened the first espresso bar in Paris. By 1850, he had opened positions at several European embassies and was able to travel extensively to learn about coffee culture. He continued to make excellent quality coffee until his death in 1865.
Shakopee is a small town in the extreme northwest corner of Minnesota, United States. It was founded in 1868 by Peregrine Wright and his family, who came from Canada. Shakopee has since grown to include a population of over 6,000 residents. The original village was located on the banks of the Oxbow River, about three miles north of modern-day Shakopee. Shakopee's success as a small town led to it becoming one of the most important cultural and economic centres in northwestern Minnesota during the early 20th century. In 1906, Shakopee hosted the first annual farmers' market in America at its local park. This event became an iconic symbol of American rural culture and commerce. The village also played an important role in developing what is now Shakopee Township into a major agricultural community during this time period. The township was first organized in 1909 and has since become one of the most significant subdivisions within Minnesota’s Twin Cities metropolitan area. Since disbanding its school district in 2001, Shakopee has developed into one of the most vibrant communities within its borders – home to more than 10 recreational organizations (ROS), several churches (including two megachurches), a library with more than 1 million items, two professional sports teams (the Northern Stars ice hockey team and the SHC Vikings football team), two dozen businesses (most notably MTS All-Stars Brewing Company) and countless civic organizations including Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, Area Children’s Museum and many more!
On July 1, 1851, Shakopee and surrounding areas became part of the new state of Minnesota. The town had been growing rapidly since it was platted in 1839. By 1871, it had a population of over 2,500 people.
