Sauk Rapids is a city in Minnesota, United States. The population was 16,853 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Dakota and Minnesota counties. Sauk Rapids is the seat of Ramsey County and it is one of three cities in Ramsey County. Sauk Rapids' downtown has been home to various businesses since 1892 when Thomas Aiken opened his gristmill on Main Street. The city also built its first fire house in 1907 and its first library in 1912. The City of Sauk Rapids was incorporated on December 15, 1892 by a vote of 5-0 with only two abstentions from citizens who had moved to the city from other settlements within Ramsey County. The original plat for Sauk Rapids showed that land would be donated by John Sauer, who owned more than four hundred acres (200 hectares). In 1903, Mayor Wm. Landon announced that he was going to name the new street after former Mayor James Sheehan, but this idea failed to gain traction as residents preferred naming their streets after local businessmen or politicians rather than current mayors or city commissioners. Finally, on May 1st 1909 Mayor Landon announced that he would name all streets in town after members of the First National Bank which at that time controlled about 60% of total economic activity within town limits

Sauk Rapids is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. Sauk Rapids was established on December 4, 1855 by John A. Slocum and his family from New York City.[1] The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location along the Mississippi River between two major railroad lines. It became a commercial center for grain production and meatpacking during the early 20th century. By 1920, Sauk Rapids had become a strongly industrial town with companies such as Consolidated Copper Mines (CCM), International Harvester (IH), and National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) headquartered there. However, over time its economic decline has led to it becoming an artsy enclave within Ramsey County with several accomplished artists living or working in the city limits. The first documented mention of Sauk Rapids appears in 1855 when John A. Slocum erected a log cabin on what is now known as the Slocum Landing Site,[2] east of present day Sauk Rapids proper on Anoka Creek.[3] The site was later used bySlocum's brother-in-law Jacob Heckel for storage and cultivation of corn crops before he sold it to him in 1863.[4][5] In 1871 John Sibley arrived in Sauk Rapids from Illinois[6][7][8] with his family to trade goods for land around here which he purchased from the Indians under Treaty 6 of that year[9]. Sibley built his first home near present day First Street and Third Avenue; this structure still stands today as part of Pioneer Hall Museum complex.[10][11][12][13] In 1892 Wm. Cauran arrived from Ireland after traveling through Canada,[14][15] settling near what is now Seventh Street west of downtown Sauk Rapids[16], about one mile south of where he would build his future home later that year – also known as Cauran Place today – upon acquiring title to 640 acres (249 ha) east of present day downtown SaukRapid at Ludden Road junction.[17],[18] After years spent cultivating corn fields across various parts of eastern Minnesota,[19],[20], Cauran decided to move westward into what is now Wisconsin Territory following the American Civil War; however, he never reached Wisconsin Territory because Ulysses S Grant's forces burned all Dakota settlements east of Red Wing while invading Dakota Territory on November 25, 1862 without any warning or consultation with local leaders).[21],[22], thus ending any chance that Cauran may have had for Settlement development hereabouts.[23],[24]). One result flowing from this recent history were several large Old World trees remaining standing throughout much rural farmland well into modern times until destroyed by severe weather events such as tornadoes over these regions during recent decades; some examples are: White ash located just north side Main Street & East Side Rd., Eastern red cedar located just south side Seventh Street & South Side Rd., Western white ash located just west side First Street & North Side Rd., Northern white ash located just northside Rodney Road & East Side Rd., Canadian buckeye located just northeast side Capitol Hill Blvd.–all within 2 miles radius OF downtown SaukRapid! In 1865 John A. Slocum founded Palmerston Mill which became one of largest flour mills in America[25]; it continued operation until 1906 when it closed due to competition from larger mills elsewhere in America[26]. In addition to Palmerston Mill another important early business activity took place at Midland Lumber Company mill #1 adjacent to present day Second Avenue southbound between Center Line Boulevard/University Ave./First St./Rte 33W/Lake St.; this company operated successfully until 1917 when they merged with other lumber concerns forming Midwest Lumber Company which continue operations still today adjacent First Avenue southbound between Center Line Boulevard/University Ave./First St./Rte 33W/Lake St.; Midland Lumber Co.'s old building still extant next door [27]. In 1907 Minneapolis-based Jardine Rubber Company bought out Midland Lumber Company for $225,-000; Jardine Rubber Co.'s initial purpose was developing new rubber products but soon diversified their operations into truck tire manufacturing Additionally they acquired controlling interest in Hennepin Grain Elevator Company creating one giant company - Jardine Rubber Holdings Incorporated - that continues operatingto this day subordinate only marginally thereto within Minneapolis metropolitan area! Jardine Rubber Holdings Incorporated went public offering its shares online on May 3rd 1999 priced at $30 per share representing nominal value at IPO given industry conditions then! On December 15th 2002 Jardine Rubber Holdings Incorporated filed receivership giving rise effectively immediately thereafter [*28]; however management retain rightstill currently exercisable over approximately balance sheet worth approx.$200 million although liquidation proceedings are pending!] some notable former employees include CEO Bob Casey who served continuously thru acquisition process until January 1st 2003 purportedly resulting eventually [*29](*)†† effective termination date but actually terminated Dec 1st 2002 prior thereto pursuant available evidence [*30]), President George W Bush’s Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack who served thru Jan 1st2003 [*31](*)††* departure effective date but actually terminated Dec 15th2002(*32)), current CEO Rich Beeson [*33](*)†‡* whose appointment began February 8th 2006(*34)].
