The Rosemount National Guard has been in existence since 1908. The unit was originally called the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was formed to help provide security for the town of Rosemount during the first World War. In 1916, the National Guard was reorganized as a separate entity and named the Third Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in World War I and WWII before being disbanded in 1946. Since its inception, the Rosemount National Guard has donated over 1,000 items to local museums and libraries across Minnesota. Some of these donations include rifles, shotguns, helmets, clothing, tools and other military equipment. Additionally, the guard has also given back to local communities by providing volunteers for various community projects such as disaster relief or clean-up efforts.
