Richfield is a small city in the Minnesota Twin Cities metropolitan area. The population was 72,684 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Richfield was John Mennonite settlers who arrived in 1858. The name "Richfield" was given to them by General David Richardson when he surveyed the area for a post office. A store and hotel were built on what is now First Avenue South between 1930 and 1932, and again from 1936 to 1938. In 1941, Richfield voters approved adding an incorporated village to their city limits; this became known as Richfeld Village. On July 1, 1957, Richfield had its incorporation as a town within the City of Minneapolis; it reverted back to its original status on December 1, 1984 following voter approval of a new city charter that eliminated most townshiphoods in the Minneapolis-St Paul Metropolitan Area. In 2000, construction began on an $8 million dollar shopping center called North Shore Plaza across First Avenue from downtown Richfield; it opened in 2002. The mall contained over 100 stores and restaurants including JCPenney, Macy's, Sears and Bloomingdale's. In 2007 developer Alliant Development Partners purchased all 9 acres along First Avenue south of downtown from United States Steel Corp for $325 million making it one of wealthiest neighborhoods in America with high-end housing developments such as One North Pointe (a skyscraper), Park Place (a luxury apartment complex) and The Lakeshore District (an upscale mixed-use development). According to study done by real estate firm Urban Meyer & Partners LLP in 2006 which analyzed zip code 55449′s demographics since 2000 there has been significant transformation taking place throughout much of this community – including increases in both jobs and home ownership rates – creating many opportunities for retail businesses adjacent to University Parkway/First Ave./Southwest Boulevard corridor while also attracting professional athletes such as football players Vikings cornerbackbacks Trae Waynes (now retired) & Kyle Rudolph (now with Carolina Panthers)and ice skaters Elisha Cuthbert & Jesse Pulver among others during various offseason activities at nearby Target Field or Xcel Energy Center if necessary or required travel time away from home during offseasons months available near densely populated areas such as Eden Prairie MN’s Stinson Place Shopping Center less than 5 miles away As mentioned earlier University Parkway/First Ave./Southwest Boulevard corridor has become increasingly becoming an attractive Peak destination destination outside large metropolitan areas typically experiencing job growth rate outpacing population growth rate

Richfield is a small town in central Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first people to live in Richfield were Native Americans who hunted and fished near the present-day city limits. The fur trader Pierre Dorion arrived in 1824 and named the settlement after his home village of Richfield, Quebec. He also built a warehouse and a mill here, which soon became one of the largest flour mills in America. In 1851, railroads reached Richfield and it began to grow rapidly as a commercial center for northcentral Minnesota. By 1870, all but two of the town's businesses had been destroyed by fire or by industry collapse; nevertheless, Richfield continued to thrive as an agricultural center with large crops of corn, beans, peas, potatoes and other vegetables until around World War II when its economy collapsed due to changes in farming methods and technological advances. In 1957, Richfield voters passed a referendum authorizing development within their borders on behalf of neighboring Bloomington Township; however this proposal was never executed because Bloomington refused to give up its own independent zoning authority for Richfeldt Avenue Shopping Center which would have paralleled Interstate 94 across from their township boundaries
