The Plymouth National Guard was first organized on December 15, 1903. It became a federally chartered organization on October 1, 1912. The unit was originally called the Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. On March 4, 1916, the regiment was redesignated the Minnesota National Guard and its insignia were changed to include a three pointed star with “P” for Plymouth in the center. The unit served in World War I as part of the 8th Infantry Division and also fought in World War II as part of the 9th Infantry Division. In 1947, the Minnesota National Guard was reorganized into an entity known as the Minnesota Army National Guard.
Plymouth, Minnesota is a town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Plymouth was founded in 1884 by Norwegian immigrants and has been inhabited since then by Scandinavians, Germans, Irish people and Americans. Plymouth is located on the Mississippi River about northwest of downtown Minneapolis. According to the 2010 census, Plymouth has a total area of , of which (or 99%) is land and (or 3%) is water. The town center lies on an east-west axis near Highway 55 and State Highway 98/Minnesota Avenue; most of the rest of the town lies along Interstate 94 north of that highway. The river forms much of Plymouth's eastern border; its western edge runs just south of Uptown Minneapolis on Nicollet Avenue NE. The first Europeans to arrive in what would become Plymouth were Norwegians who arrived in 1884 from Sogn og Fjordane colony on Målselv Island (). They founded a community called "Trukka" () around 1885 after reaching Trukkeviken () on mainland Norway from where they sailed for America aboard HMS Beagle under Captain Cook during his North Atlantic Expedition (). For many years it was considered one of America's earliest settlements because it had remained largely rural until well into the 20th century as farming families continued to settle thereabouts despite being scattered over vast areas in Dakota Territory, Iowa Territory and Minnesota Territory (). In 1902–03 American army troops under General John Pershing burned down buildings associated with wintering SS Albatross off southwestern coast Of Maine (), which disrupted Norwegian fishing traffic between Norway's faroe islands and their domestic fisheries off southern Canada so much so that some Norwegians decided to move permanently to Plymouth where they began building churches Thereafter new waves continue annually hithertil this day as Swedes have also come hereto work odd jobs available but still maintain strong ties with their homeland while other nations have slowly turned away or forgotten all about them Dutch settlers followed soon afterwards mostly via boatloads through Peace River tributary known as 'Narrows' In 1905 when US Census counted 827 residents living alone 246 responded identifying themselves as “Norwegian” leaving 248 Still remaining today are 276 self-identified “Dutch”

The National Guard has grown over time and now consists of more than 26 million soldiers and civilians who are mobilized to support the federal government on a variety of occasions. One of the most important aspects of the National Guard is its history and culture. The units that have served in America include both World War II veterans and peacetime troops from all across the country. It is also worth noting that many members of the National Guard were born into military families, making them some of America's most decorated soldiers. National Guardsmen have been deployed in every conflict throughout American history, including wars with Spain (1810-1812), Mexico (1946-1948), Vietnam (1973-1975), Iraq (2003-2011), Afghanistan (2001-present) and Syria (2013). In each case, they have demonstrated their willingness and ability to fight for our country no matter what.

On December 12, 1861, the first state soldiers were ordered to muster at Fort Sumter in South Carolina to resist Confederate forces. The next year, on February 15, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln called for all American citizens to rise against the Confederacy and join the military effort. On April 14th of that year, 1/3 of a million Americansjoined the Union army under General Ulysses S. Grant as part of Operation Overland. The National Guard played an important role during these events by providing manpower and equipment to both sides.
Plymouth is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located about fifty miles southwest of Minneapolis. It was founded in 1853 by Norwegian immigrants, and its population increased rapidly from modest beginnings to more than 2,000 residents by the early 1960s. Plymouth experienced significant growth during the Vietnam War era as thousands of American soldiers based in nearby Rockford moved into the city to fight. The city's fortunes changed abruptly after they returned home and its population plunged back below 1,000 by 1975. However, Plymouth has since regained some stability and today has a population of around 2,500 people. Founded on October 16th, 1853, Plymouth was one of several towns chartered within Dakota Territory following the US victory at Fort Snelling on August 15th that year over Native American forces led by Crazy Horse. The town was named for John Averill (1795-1854), an abolitionist who had come to Minnesota with his family in 1827 as part of the Treaty of 1824 which ended Indian wars across north America. John Averill also served as justice of peace for Dakota Territory from 1830 until his death in 1854. In 1865 Plymouth may have been among the first communities in Minnesota to adopt municipal government under a new form called "divisional government" which allowed for elected officials responsible for areas other than just rural and agricultural affairs like sewers and roads; this system would be replaced by centralized government following the Civil War

A library was built in 1907 and another library was added to the city limits in 1957; both are now closed but remain preserved as museum pieces. Plymouth is located at (45.560929, -93.739362). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all of it land. As of 2009 there were 8,867 people living here—3% more than during 2000 census but 2% less than when Plymouth consolidated with neighboring White Bear Lake that year to form a new municipality called "Plymouth-White Bear Lake". As part of its plan to reduce crime rates within its boundaries by 50%, Plymouth is working with social service agencies to establish " safe zones" around public areas which have been designated for use only by law enforcement officers or emergency responders; these zones will also include vacant lots which have not been used for years because they are known child-safe areas or areas where people can go if they feel unsafe near any other building or person
