Plymouth, Minnesota is a small town located in the Rural Municipality of Plymouth, Manitoba. The population was 1,877 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Winnipeg–St. John's census metropolitan area. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Plymouth in 1867. There were six families who started out on a farm called "New Beginnings." They used horses and oxen to carry their goods up the Andes River from present-day Cochrane to where they built their log cabin and started trading with other tribes for goods and services. In 1872, they erected a frame schoolhouse which served as a community center until it burned down in 1954. In 1902, the people of Plymouth voted to incorporate as an unincorporated community under the name "Plymouth" (a portmanteau of "Porto Rico" and "Minnesota"). This was done because there was no post office within its boundaries - residents had to go through Winnipeg or St. John's to send letters! The first Postmaster General of Canada moved from Ottawa to Plymouth in 1908 and set up his office there. By1967, when Statistics Canada published its Canadian Census results for that year, Plymouth had declined by 10% from its peak population of 1,927 residents in 1966 due to smaller sizes across many rural municipalities during that period of growth for Canadan towns and villages; however it had increased by 2% since the 1971 censuses because Ofcom's decision not to count rural homes towards the total population when calculating municipal values led to more accurate statistical registration data for this region.) There were only 792 people living in Plymothiai municipality at that census; however by 2011 there were 1,877 residents (of which 809 lived inside Ofcom's jurisdiction). In that year PCTV2 began broadcasting from nearby Moose Jaw; TV New Zealand continued operations out of Winnipeg until 1979 while CBC operations originated out of Moose Jaw until 1978; both services are currently available via digital video tape provided by RJI TV Services Inc., an arm company owned by broadcaster Shaw Communications Ltd.). Plymouth Township consisted of 11 blocks: 3 streets ran north-south: Beaver Creek Road/Beaverbrook Lane/Lakeview Drive/Natchez Avenue West (later renamed Dakota Street), 4 streets ran east-west: Superior Street/Oakdale Boulevard/Westminster Avenue (later renamed Riverside Drive), 5 blocks ran north-south: Allendale Street/Lenox Place/Dakota Street (later renamed Birchmount Crescent), 6 blocks ran east-west: Cedar Rapids Road/Brooklyn Avenue (later renamed Maplecrest Crescent), 7 blocks ran north-south: Main Street (now named Highland Boulevard) / Fountain Square South / Dodge Park North / Park Square East iversity Ave./University Dr./Bellevue Wayanda Dr.; 8 blocks ran east-west: University Blvd./Milford Wayanda Dr./Garland Heights Ln./Cedar Crest Crescent

Plymouth, Minnesota is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Minnesota. The population was 792 at the 2000 census. Plymouth is known for its history and culture, which has been passed down from its founders through generations. The town was founded in 1854 by settlers from Vermont. It became a city in 1912, but it reverted to a townsite status in 1972. Plymouth is home to two universities, Saint Louis University and Northern Illinois University. The town has also been home to numerous professional sports teams, including the Plymouth Patriots of the American Football League (AFL) and the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Saints of Professional Baseball (PBP). The first permanent settler in Plymouth was Samuel Morse who arrived in 1854 with his family. He built a cabin on what is now State Street. Morse lettered "Plymouth" on some of his logs which were found near present day Depot Road and Main Street. In 1855, John Fenton arrived with his family and soon began trading goods with other settlers in nearby Duluth. Fenton named his new settlement after himself - Fort Dodge or Fort Snelling - based on an Indian name he had heard about a village called Pembina that had disappeared without trace years earlier while exploring these same woods. By 1870, Fort Dodge had become one of the most important settlements within miles of Duluth due to its strategic location at the junction of several trails that connected Dakota Territory eastward to Canada and westward to Illinois and Wisconsin respectively
On July 1, 1851, Plymouth was organized as a city by Minnesota Territorial Legislature. It was named in honor of the first English settler in the area, Captain John Fennimore Plymouth. The town's first mayor and council were elected on December 12, 1851.
