The Plymouth Army National Guard is one of the oldest and most active volunteer organizations in the United States. The unit was formed on July 1, 1907 from the Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment and has served in every presidential election since 1912. In addition to its military duties, the Guardsmen offer a wide variety of other services, including community engagement, education programs, and disaster relief. Today, the Plymouth Army National Guard is composed of over 20,000 members who serve in more than 130 units across Minnesota. Unit members are proud advocates for democracy and human rights, and they have played an important role in supporting local communities both during peacetime and wartime.

Plymouth is a town in west-central Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area and is the county seat of Plymouth County. Plymouth was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1857 as a small farmstead on the southeast side of present-day Plymouth Township. The township was organized in 1858, and the farmstead became a village in 1870. In 1896, when Plymouth County was organized, it included parts of what are now Plymouth Township and Maplewood Township. The village merged with Farmington to form the current city of Plymouth on February 17, 1912. The first settler in what is now Plymouth Township came from Hennepin County, Minnesota in 1857 and named his farmstead "Frosty Bay". Ole Hanson started farming there around 1840-45 where he raised hay for cattle and also grew corn for export to Stettler City (now Vermilion) on the other side of the river. In 1865, Rasmus Olsen started homesteading east ofpresent-day downtown Lisbon on what is now Northwest corner lot 5th Street & 2nd Avenue N., just north of US Highway 169 between Clearwater Boulevard & Aberdeen Avenue N., within what is today Farmington Township; he called his land "Frosty Bay", probably derived from an old Norse word meaning "spotty snow". Olson's heirs continued to farm there until 1915 when they sold their land to John Jansen who renamed it "Plymouth" after his home town in Norway where he had been born in1860! A post office operated at Frosty Bay from 1860 until 1906; mail arrived via boat or rail from Stettler City which then carried it acrossriver to Lisbon! In 1896, when Plympton County was organized (it consisted mostly of present day Maplewood Township), its first Supervisor was Wm Sargent who lived near Mechanicsburg on an estate that still stands today situat ed just south east off SW corner 3rd Ave NW & SE corner Union Pacific Railroad tracks just inside present day Lisbon limits - this man who supervised all county elections through out these years played a very important role early on THANKS TO HIS DAUGHTER MARY ANN SARGENT WHO WORKED FOR THE SUPERVISOR IN BACK THEN !! When we say “Plymouth” throughout this paper we are referring specifically to our own city located within our borders – not any other place mentioned anywhere else….. so without further ado…. here’s some history about how Plympton got its name: back before 1898 everyone simply called their settlement “Plymouth” because that’s where their homeland originated from! And believe us – no one ever felt wrong about doing that anymore…….. even if your hometown happens to be right smack dab inside our borders 😉 Although many people have tried over time come up with various alternative names for our city such as: “Lisbon” or even something more unique like “Westerville” etc., nothing really comes close to capturing exactly how special/unique/memorable/historic/fascinating/ouvririzing it actually is 🙂 Plymouth has been bouncing back and forth between boom times and bust times since its establishment as a small agricultural community nearly fifty years ago. Today, though much smaller overall than when it initially sprung up around 1900 due largely to technological advancements combined with globalization (the latter two waves happening concurrently), Plympton remains an active community hub with strong cultural ties stretching well beyond its boundaries into neighboring townships across Minneapolis-St Paul metroplexes – most notably Maplewood adjacent communities Fullerton Heights and Bloomington Hills . As America pulled away during World War II while Michigan regained control following 1945 hostilities ended+, much economic activity shifted out towards Metropolis center during those postwar decades — resulting in significantly less population growth along rural portions northeast and northwestofthattownship periphery rife with unincorporated forests sandwiched between densely populated neighborhoods . Plymouth was first settled in 1858 by Emmett and Laura Snively. The town was named for the Plymouth Rock, a large boulder located near the present-day intersection of County Road S and State Highway 5. Plymouth's first post office was established in 1859. In 1865, the state legislature authorized the creation of a township, which formed from part of Plymouth. The township's first mayor was W.L. Goode. In 1886, the township became an incorporated municipality under the name of Plymouth Township. In 1912, it changed its name to Plymouth City and remains so today.
