In 1915, Gustavus Svantesson passed away and his son Harry took over management of the company. In 1922, Harry Svantesson decided to move production to Chicago due to economic conditions there. However, Gustavus Coffee Company continued to produce high-quality coffee until its closure in 1970.

The history of Otsego County can be traced back to its earliest days as a Territory within Minnesota. On February 17, 1855, Minnesota became a state following approval by the United States Congress. As part of this new state system, each township (except those within city limits) was given equal representation in the legislature. This meant that local officials could no longer rely on their ward or precinct boundaries to determine their political power; instead they had to comply with special statutes passed by the legislature specifically for this purpose. As part of this new system, Otsego County was assigned to St. Louis Township 1st Ward which consisted primarily of farmlands located east-northeast of present-day Minneapolis/St Paul). The first settlers to arrive in what would become Otsego County were men from New York City who arrived on October 11th1858 aboard the SS "Newark". Upon arrival in Minnesota they began construction on their small cabin near present day Hastings on Anoka Creek. They were assisted by two other New Yorkers - Cornelius Vanderbilt II (November 16th 1840 – May 9th 1865) and his son Cornelius Vanderbilt III Jr.(May 10th 1865 – March 2nd 1909). From these initial settlers many others soon followed including: James Bailey(October 11th 1860 – July 5th 1951), David Neumann(August 20ths 1861 – September 23rd 1934), Julius Nystrom(September 24ths 1861 – August 8ths 1908), Harry Jorgensen(March 13 th 1863 – May 14 th 1941), John Husted(March 15 th 1863 – November 5 th 1943)and Harry Sorenson(January 4teenth 1870 – July 25 th 1948). In addition to these early pioneers there were several hundred immigrants who came during various waves over succeeding decades: Germans (from Hanoveria Province southward along the German River until 1850 when all German residents had to leave due to US policy); Irish; Swedish; Norwegian; Danish; Finnish; Poles (); Italians (); Slovaks (); Jews ().
