Oakdale is a town in Polk County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 910 at the 2010 census. Oakdale is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Oakdale was James Armstrong who came to the area in 1855. There were only seven families living in the community when it was founded and by 1860 there were only seventy-four people living there. By 1870, there were over one hundred people living in the community and it had a school, store, and post office. In 1876, John Purdie moved from Houstonville to start a farm on what is now SE 4th Street and NW 1st Avenue. He named his land "Oakdale" after his old home near Boston, England which he had left behind when he emigrated to America in 1851. In 1881, two brothers named Earle and George Morrill bought land northeast of present-day Oakdale from Purdie for $2 per acre (0¢ per sq ft). They started an agricultural settlement known as "The Gables." In 1888 they donated their entire lot - including all of their buildings - to the town of Oakdale for use as a public school district office building and gymnasium/cafeteria complex called "The Gables". This structure still stands today as Elmwood Elementary School District Headquarters Building #1 on SE 4th Street between NW 2nd Avenue and Nw 3rd Avenues; Elmwood also operates The Gables restaurant which closed down in 2006 but reopened as an experimental eatery called The Experiment that ran from 2008 until 2016 within the former Elmwood Elementary School complex located on SE 4th Street between NW 2nd Avenue and Nw 3rd Avenues (formerly Parkway Learning Center) with additional space inside existing Elmwood Elementary School Building #1 on 4th Street between NW 2nd Ave & Nw 3rd Avenues (formerly White Oaks Mall), providing dining options for students attending neighboring high schools while also exhibiting research projects related to food safety & sustainability through experimentation with new menu items& Chef Art Beattie's graduate program focused training program underway at local culinary college about cross contamination

Oakdale is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Oakdale was made by Andrew Wills and his family in 1865. The name "Oakdale" was first applied to a house on Main Street in 1868. In 1870, the community purchased from the state of Minnesota an acre (approximately ) of land east of present-day Maple Avenue for $1 per acre. This land became known as "the farmstead." In 1881, two men named John and James Cook set up a store on Elm Street near Maple Avenue and started trading goods that they had collected from around southern Minnesota. They also built a home there which served as their storeroom and office until about 1900 when it burned down with all its contents in a storm. In 1902, Gustavus Olson moved to Oakdale from Watertown and opened his grocery store there which became one of the most successful Grocery stores in the city before he sold it to Jens Larson in 1925. A post office called Oakdale was established at this location on December 17, 1903; it remained open until 1941 when it changed hands several times before becoming part of the new Ramsey County Cooperative Extension Service headquarters complex located off Union Boulevard north of Interstate 5 between University Avenue and Park Avenue South By 1935, only one inhabitant remained living within the original boundaries of present-day Oakdale - Mrs. Minerva Blythe - who then gifted her home (then known as "The Gables") to the townspeople for use as a library annexe/museum starting on October 15th that year Also during 1935-1936 four churches were built: First Congregational Church (now First United Methodist), Second Presbyterian Church (now Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church), Third LutheranChurch (now Trinity Lutheran Center) and Fourth BaptistChurch (now Good Shepherd Baptist). In 1937-1938 additional houses were added to Olivet Roadwest of Maple Ave., including one owned by Marge Hesselman which would become known as "Hess's Place". When Addison Olson died childless in 1945 his widow donated his large tract along with other assets to support education for local children starting with five acres immediately south of Hess's Place . On January 20th 1950 after more than 60 years service as Township Treasurer/Tax Collector for Ramsey County she retired effective February 10th following nearly 30 years retirement . After her retirement Mrs . Blythe resided at her home 'The Gables' continuing operations outfitting clothes for schoolchildren while also maintaining access tolibrary resources through 'The Gables' annexe/museum
