The shop was closed in 1928, but reopened in 1932 as the first coffee house in town. In 1937, the business moved to its current location on Main Street. In 1984, the business changed its name to Elmira Coffee House and Restaurant. In 1992, Elmira Coffee House and Restaurant became part of the Twin Cities Business Association and is now one of its member businesses.

The town was formed in 1881 when parts of present-day Ramsey County were split off from Dakota Territory. It has been home to a variety of businesses including grocery stores, auto dealerships, clothing stores, doctors' offices, banks and more since its incorporation as a village in 1906. One of Oakdale's most notable residents was Adolph Ziegler who served as mayor from 1951-1957 and 1959-1963; he later became president of University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus; he died there on October 1st 2016 aged 95 years old. Another noteworthy resident was musician Herb Alpert whose last performance took place at the Greek Theatre in Oakdale on December 5th 1974; his death occurred one week after his 89th birthday according to local media reports
Oakdale was founded in 1858 by John and Anna G. Mayo as a farmstead on the edge of a clearing in what is now the city of Minneapolis. The Mayos were the first European settlers in Minnesota, and their farmstead became one of the most important agricultural sites in that state. In 1916, Oakdale was named a city after its incorporation as a municipality.
