It also manufactured potatoes for the army during World War I and World War II. The plant closed in 1945, but reopened in 1968 as the Northfield Potato Processing Facility. Northfield is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, and the seat of Ramsey County. The population was 27,901 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Ramsey County after St. Paul. Northfield is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area and is adjacent to Minneapolis on three sides and Saint Paul on one side. The first Europeans to visit what is now Northfield were led by Pierre Marquette in 1695 as part of his exploration of what is now Michigan Territory. Marquette's group landed at present-day Blaine Lake on November 5, 1695, following their journey upriver from Green Bay via Manhatten Island to what is now Superior Heights; they named their new land "Norman" after John Norman, an Englishman who had accompanied them on their voyage. In 1819, James Kamps founded a town called Northfield in present-day Ramsey County along with other supporters ofAdam Smith's banking system movement known as the North American System Project (NASP). In 1825, Kamps renamed his town "Ramsey". In 1836 Governor David Noble awarded a charter to George Wickersham for a township called Niskayuna opposite Spirit Lake in northeastern Minnesota near where Wickershams cabin still stands today – this township became Grant Township when it was organized into Ramsey County in 1881. On February 14, 1865, when Union forces burned down Nicollet Palace during Minnesota State Fair celebrations—the event that ignitedMinnesota’s war against Confederate America—many people living east of downtown Minneapolis took refuge inside Nicollet Palace until burning subsided around 8 p.m.—nearly all those inside were able to escape without injury or damage except for one man who lost an eye due to fragments thrown from the fire outside; that man was later elected mayor pro tempore of Minneapolis and served until 1889 when he retired due to age rather than run for office again (see also: Nicollet Palace Incident). A year later General Order No 1 issued by Brigadier General Nelson Atherton commanding all Union troops west of Fort Snelling authorized “a general demolition and destruction within convenient distance”of Nicollet Palace including its interior spaces which included both its library and archives; only two windows remained standing beyond repair much less be used as targets by rebels during post-fire reconstruction efforts given that most furniture had been destroyed or looted upon liberation (see also: Nicollet Palace Burning). In May 1870 Hennepin County Commissioners purchased about 640 acres northwest of downtown Minneapolis between Wrightwood Road and Interstate 55 for $4 per acre from Nicholas Biddle & Sons Incorporated; this tract became Regency Park which opened its doors to the public on April 15th, 1907 followed by Ladd Field Reserve adjoining it just southwest thereof which opened its gates on October 17th 1914 becoming home plate park for both teams at Metrodome Stadium untilato date with expansion taking place thereat culminating with construction beginning thereon resulting in parking lots extending thereto across Wrightwood Road southeastward thence southwestward unto Interstate 55) . On December 3rd 1915 local residents approved annexation into neighboring counties resulting in Regency Park becoming part makingspace model suburbia similar thereto being established throughoutHennepin County whenever needed while government buildings remain off limits thereby enjoying some level security certain features not available elsewhere within municipality boundaries such as dedicated police precincts/station homes etc.–ramseypolis@umnet net northFIELD

Northfield is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Northfield was platted in 1857 as part of a land grant to Levi Hastings from John Lubbock. The first settler in what is now Northfield was Daniel Boone, who built his cabin there in 1799. The town name "Northfield" originated with a misunderstanding because two other towns called Northrop and Newton had the same name but were located on the other side of the River Red River. The mistake was corrected when Captain George Rogers Clark discovered that he had been misled when he named his new settlement after another Indian chief's village on the opposite bank of the river – Northrop Hill should have been called Newton instead. In 1855, Abraham Beitman established a sawmill at what is now downtown Northfield and began trading goods with farmers and traders upriver from Rochester. By 1860, Beitman had become one of America's leading lumberjacks and founded an branch office in Chicago toexport trees to Europe and Asia for shipment back home across Lake Superior. In 1865, Beitman donated 3 million acres (1 km²) of forested land near present day Stroudsburg to create Forest Park—the largest ever donation by an American individual to any public park or country estate outside academia or government lands.). In 1892–93, James Aiken organized construction workers into Local 150001 through mutual aid societies while they were building a rail line between Minneapolis and Duluth; this event helped bring business prosperity to Northfield during its early years as a mill townspeople flocked to work on what would be one of America's most important transportation corridors just before World War I caused much economic decline throughoutMinnesota In 1915 Jack Eicher opened his convenience store at 4th Street & Market Place which became known as Eicher's Corner later replaced by Target shopping center .
