The terminals played an instrumental role in showcasing Minnesota’s diverse seafood resources to potential customers around the world. In 1912, for instance, USS Tacoma exhibited its collection of seafood products from around the world at an exhibition hosted at New Ulm Marine Terminal. This event helpedestablish Minnesota as a leading seafood producer within North America. During World War II,New Ulm played an essential role in supplying foodstuffs and munitions to Allied forces fighting in Europe. Facing difficult logistical challenges,the city developed innovative methods to facilitate imports and exports through its marine terminals. For example, NewUlm Marine Terminal handled both intra-ship transfers and export shipments simultaneously throughout 1944-1945+. In recent years,New Ulm has become known as a center for maritime culture and educationally important events related to fishing communities worldwide. For example, Sea Grant University presents Annual Lectures on Fishing History at NewUlm Marine Terminal every February since 2003!

New Ulm, Minnesota is a small city located in the central region of Minnesota. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. New Ulm is home to Saint John's University and the Mayo Clinic. The first settlers in what is now New Ulm were farmers who arrived in 1856 from Denmark. The town was named after General James Kahl (1792-1877), an American general who fought against Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War. The first business in town was a grocery store, which opened in 1858. In 1870, a sawmill and flour mill were built near present-day First Street and Euclid Avenue; these mills turned out flour for local markets as well as exporting to other states. In 1886, New Ulm became a city when it was merged with neighboring Rochester. At that time, Rochester had a population of only 2,500 people and New Ulm had a population of 11,000 people! Today, New Ulm has more than 17 square miles (35 km²) of commercial district and over 100 businesses including 3 banks and 10 restaurants/bars! New Ulm, Minnesota is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,624 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hennepin County. New Ulm was founded in 1881 by German immigrants and named after New Ulm, Germany. The City of New Ulm was organized on February 14, 1881 as a result of a referendum held in that year to celebrate the centennial of Minnesota's admission into the Union as a state. In 1909, Mayor John Waddell convinced the city council to rename it "New Ulm" in honor of General George Washington Carver who had donated land to be used for agricultural purposes. At first only men could vote in town elections; however, on November 3rd 1910 women were allowed to participate and they won an outright majority on the council from then until 1951 when voting became open to both sexes once again. On December 1st 1907 an act was passed by the Minnesota State Legislature which authorized Minneapolis-St Paul Railway Company (MSP) to build a branch line from St Cloud through New Ulm into Hennepin County. The company built and opened the line on December 15th 1908. The mill town rapidly grew around the new railroad station which became known as "the heart of town". By 1921 there were over 100 businesses clustering around two blocks east of Main Street between Third Avenue and Eighth Avenue In 1922/23 there were plans for another large shopping center located just east of downtown called "CenturyLink Plaza". However these plans never came to fruition due economic factors such as low demand for goods manufactured within easy driving distance of Minneapolis or St Paul). In 1954 MSP merged with Northern Pacific Railway (NRA) forming North Central Railroad which continued operations out-of-town until its final closure in 1990. Consequently all photographs taken before 1990 show locomotives either running north or southbound on tracks that now connect with I-35W near Rochester, MN
