The New Brighton National Guard was organized on February 15, 1907. The guard was made up of individuals from the town of New Brighton and surrounding villages. The first officers were Captain John A. Dunn, Major George H. Matteson, and Lieutenant Edward P. Smith. The guard served in various capacities from 1907-1908 when it was disbanded due to budgetary restrictions. In 1908, the guardsmen reorganized into a company and began service once again with the Minnesota National Guard as their unit designation. From 1916-1920, the national guard patrolled the border of Canada during World War I; however, this deployment did not result in any combat action against enemy forces. After World War I ended, the Minnesota National Guard resumed its inactive status until 1932 when it became part of the newly created Department of Defense as an armory reserve unit under orders to provide military training for local police officers and firefightersmen. The department also functioned as a barracks for soldiers stationed in Duluth while they awaited transfer to other military units or deployments overseas. In 1940-1941, the New Brighton Guardsmen participated in World War II as part of Army Air Forces Operation Torch which aimed to cross over into North Africa and chase out Axis forces there; however no combat actions took place within New Brighton itself although several people were wounded by gunfire during that time period including Captain John A Dunn who later died from his injuries at age 53 years old in 1945 at Stinson Beach Naval Hospital near San Francisco California after being shot down over Morocco while flying an American B-24 bomber attached to VIII Bomber Command RAF (No1 Group). After World War II ended, many former members of the New Brighton Guardsmen turned their attention towards agricultural pursuits such as planting trees or working on farms throughout southern Minnesota where they continued to live until retirement around 1985-1990 inclusive outside of Minneapolis MN following which they resided permanently at 4359 S Maple Street NE apartment complex located just east side off Snelling Avenuerients north/northwest corner block bounded by Eastern Ave., Snelling Ave., Maple St., S Cedar St., physical address is currently unknown but presumably same location

The National Guard is a member of the Minnesota National Guard. This organization was established on July 1, 1907 as the 9th Infantry Regiment and became part of the Minnesota Army National Guard on October 1, 1912. The regiment was redesignated as the 8th Infantry Regiment in 1934 and again as the 9th Infantry Regiment on September 3, 1948. The regiment was again redesignated as the 8th Infantry Regiment on November 5, 1990. The regiment has served in both World War I and World War II.
New Brighton is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, and it is the county seat of Thirteenth Judicial District. The population was 9,848 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest municipality in Minnesota by population size and has the second-smallest population density (behind White Bear Lake). New Brighton was organized as a town on May 26, 1867, from parts of Hastings and Rice Counties. The first postmaster was A. W. Strong who served for two years before dying in office on July 1, 1868. The original site for New Brighton was near present day Hastings Cemetery and what is now Fourth Street became its downtown square after being moved there from various locations within Hastings County during its early years. In 1874, a bill to create a township passed both houses of the Minnesota Legislature but never made it out of committee because no one wanted to be part of what they thought would be just another small town in rural Minnesota
The National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1792. The Guardsmen have seen action in both the Revolution and the Civil War. In 1861, when Confederate troops invaded the United States, President Abraham Lincoln called up the National Guard to help protect American soil. The Guardsmen fought valiantly against Confederate forces and ultimately helped America achieve its freedom from slavery. Over time, however, the Guardsman’s role in society changed. After World War II many Guardsmen served in military units overseas as part of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. Today, members of the National Guard serve in a wide variety of roles including guarding our borders and communities, providing security at state fairs and other public events, serving on special task forces such as Search & Rescue operations or narcotics trafficking investigations. In 1957, the town became embroiled in controversy when it passed an ordinance forbidding discrimination against homosexuals. The ordinance came to be known as the "New Brighton Law." Despite opposition from local businesses and citizens, the law was ultimately upheld and went into effect. Over time, New Brighton has become one of the most diverse towns in Minnesota, with a wide range of cultures and religions represented. Today, the town is home to a variety of businesses and cultural organizations, including several museums and academies.
New Brighton was founded in 1881 by John A. Stephenson and his wife Anna. It became a city in 1902. The population of New Brighton was estimated at 8,500 in 1910. In the 1930s, the City of New Brighton merged with neighboring Rockford to form the current city.
