New Brighton is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,832 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first coffee shop in New Brighton opened in 1919 and was called the Dutchman's Coffee House. The coffee shop moved to its current location in 1951 and became known as the French Connection Coffee Shop after it acquired an Italian name from a patron of the store, Francoise de la Ronde. In 1984, Dutchmen CoffeeHouse merged with another small coffee shop chain, General Mills' Twin Cities business unit owning and operating eleven stores across MN before being bought by Peet's Coffee Company in 1990; Peet's operation grew rapidly throughout MN until it closed all ten stores including New Brighton two years later when its parent company merged with JB Hiatt Corporation becoming JB Hartsfield & Co., Inc.;[1] The present day incarnation of gourmet coffee house La Cosecha opened February 7th 2006 on Nicollet Ave NE just east of Nicollet Mall within walking distance of CenturyLink Field which has been their home for over 25 years[2]. New Brighton is a small town in the state of Minnesota, located on the north bank of the Saint Croix River. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Duluth, MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. New Brighton is known for its mills and for being home to the world's largest steel foundry, which produces products such as flat Reddish iron and wrought iron. The name "New Brighton" comes from an early settler's fears that a large body of water would be called "Brighton" by other settlers because it looked like a beautiful city in England. The first mill in New Brighton was built in 1855 by George Washington Watt and his son-in-law Lewis Coffin. By 1886, there were six mills in operation in New Brighton; four by George Watt, one by Lewis Coffin and one by John Waddell. In 1892, Alfred Paine opened a flour mill on Hwy 169 near what is now High School Drive. That same year saw the opening of another mill on South First Street - this time owned and operated by Hennepin County Agricultural Society president Isaac Sibley who also donated land for school purposes next door to his mill across from Goodspeed House (now part of Duluth High School). By 1907 there were twelve mills operating in New Brighton with two more under construction at that time: One owned and operated by brothers Amos & James Laughlin (1907) and one jointlyowned andoperated by Albert Biernacki (1911). In 1898 Local 2A United Mine Workers Local 757 strike began at Buffalo Iron Works over low pay rates set forth during negotiations between management and union delegates during their monthly meeting at Buffalo Depot located on Third Avenue North. On November 20th industrial action ensued when guards refused to let strikers cross into company property adjacent to Second Street Bridge where they had been gathering food for strike breakfasts before infiltrating Company limits into Union Territory without prior warning or authorization from management. After days of peaceful picketing backed up traffic on both sides of Second Street bridge became so dense that earthen barriers had to be constructed fifteen feet high along both sides separating strikers from non-strikebreakers until finally reinforcements arrived from company headquarters arriving via wagons escorted by horsebackmounted troopers while music played all night long as people processed through check points leading back into town towards their homes sleeping among open fires within companies’ boundaries nightly since early morning hours previous day anticipating possible proscription should violence erupt following return trip home evening dinner etc…. Ultimately only three men were indicted resulting in $1,500 fine being assessed against each individual thusfar identified as leaders - Superintendent JT Armstrong

Polk who donated land to establish the settlement in 1855 as a memorial toitives killed in Indian Wars along the river. The town began as a farming community with several hundred residents and businesses during the late 19th century and early 20th century; it grew rapidly after World War II until it reached its peak population of 3,500 in 1950 and declined thereafter. The decline was due primarily to economic factors such as changes in agricultural prices and competition from larger towns east of the Mississippi River. In recent years, efforts have been made to revive New Brighton through various outreach programs and marketing campaigns; however, these efforts have not generally been successful. New Brighton is located at (45.549562,-95.527472). According to the 2010 census, it has a total area of , of which (or 98%) are water surface acres.[1] As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,711 people,[3] 901 households,[4] and 534 families residing in the town.[5] The population density was 171 people per square mile (65/km²). There were 1,904 housing units at an average density of 73 per square mile (29/km²). New Brighton was founded in 1851 by John A. Prentice and his wife, Anna. The town was named after the small river that ran through it. New Brighton began as a farming community and grew to be a large city by the early 1900s. It became an important industrial center during the 20th century, thanks to its role in the production of munitions and other military equipment. New Brighton also played a vital role in the development of Minnesota's agriculture industry.
