Mounds View is a small town in southeastern Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area. Mounds View is located on the banks of the Mississippi River upstream from Minneapolis and east of St. Louis Park. The first known permanent settler in this area was Nicholas Pohl, who arrived in 1819 and built a cabin on what is now Main Street. By 1830, Pohl had purchased land around present day Mounds View from the Mikado tribe for $1/acre (equal to about ). He donated his land to the townspeople through an act of incorporation on November 25, 1830. In 1850, Abraham Lincoln served as a justice of the peace in Moundview and married Amelia Beall there on December 12th (). Mrs Lincoln later gave birth to their only child: Edwin Booth (1853-1936). Moundview experienced impressive growth during its early years thanks to post-Civil War Reconstruction efforts by Minnesota's congressional delegation and state legislatures – it became one of several towns within newly formed Minnesota that were designated as "BlackMinnesota" due to their high African American population percentage at that time. In 1872, white supremacists attempted a abortive riot against black residents when they refused to take part in a parade celebrating Black History Month; no injuries were reported but public outrage led to renewed vigilance against race discrimination throughout much of south Twin Cities society following this incident. During prohibition era Prohibition Department raids conducted by local police officer John Alesandro in 1924–25 targeting bootlegging operations near Mounds View yielded over two hundred arrests and $2 million worth of illicit liquor seized across five counties including Hennepin County alone – this was one large bust for pre-Prohibition MN law enforcement authorities which helped achieve significant reductions in alcohol abuse among Minnesotans overall while also reducing organized crime activity across rural areas statewide during these years. Mounds View was a trading post and small town in the area that is now Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was established in 1853 as a result of the Dakota War of 1851. The post office at Mounds View was first opened in 1855. Mounds View experienced various changes during its history. In the 1870s, it became an agricultural center due to its location near the great Minnesota Farmers' Market. In 1916, it became a city, and has since been considered an important cultural and economic center in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The site of Mounds View today is occupied by a large elementary school and two churches—one from 1876 and one from 1915.
Mounds View is a city in and the county seat of Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 11,569 at the 2010 census. Mounds View is one of the oldest communities in Ramsey County and was founded by fur traders on land that now includes much of what is today Mounds View Park. The first settlers arrived from Illinois in 1853. They built a log cabin and hunted game near present-day Mounds View. The cabin was replaced by a more elaborate structure in 1858, when the first post office was established there. The settlement grew rapidly and by 1860 it had developed into an agricultural community with two churches and several stores. A mill was built in 1862 to process lumber brought overland from Norway; it became active until 1917. In 1880, local farmers began to experiment with growing corn on their farms; this led to the founding of the Corn Belt National Agricultural Laboratory in Moundsview Park in 1886. In 1902, part of what is now downtown Moundsview were designated as a park; this helped make MoundView an important commercial center during the early 20th century. During World War I (1914-18), many men from Moundsview served aboard submarines off Minnesota's coast; these submariners are buried at SeaWorld Worlds Cruise Terminal along with other veterans fromMinnesota who fought during World War I
