The Moorhead Army Depot was a location in Moorhead, Minnesota that served as the primary depot for the United States military during World War II. The depot was located on the east side of downtown and was used to store ammunition, food, and other supplies for the war. It also served as an armory where the United States military manufactured assault rifles and other weapons. The depot opened in 1942 and it remained in use until its closure in 1957. It is now part of a museum called “Moorhead Military History Museum” which features exhibits about American soldiers who fought in World War II at the depot.

Moorhead, Minnesota is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 9,716 at the 2010 census. Moorhead is located on the west bank of theMississippi River just upstream from Minneapolis and St. Paul,Minnesota's Twin Cities metropolitan area. The first people to inhabit what is now Moorhead date back to 1854 when prospectors discovered gold in an area that would later become known as Moorhead. Gold was discovered on July 5th, 1858 by James Hennepin and George Armstrong Clark while exploring for oil in what is now Dakota County, North Dakota. The discovery of gold led to settlers being attracted to the area and development began soon after with construction of a few schools and homes starting around 1859-1860 by men such as John Auld, David Hauser and others who had come looking for opportunity in a newly opened country full of new discoveries. In 1870s two brothers named Edward Cuyler started a cattle ranch that would eventually be joined by their cousin Archibald Cuyler which ran until 1916 when it was bought out by Interstate Highway 40 which runs through town today. In 1915-1920 Methodist Episcopal Church built a large church in downtown Moorhead which continues to serve as an important landmark today despite several expansions over time including subdivisions (the current building dates from 1951). During World War II many soldiers from nearby Minneapolis were housed at Fort Snelling near Moorhead before being transferred east near Duluth where they formed one of America’s largest army garrison towns during the war – consisting of more than 80% American male enlisted troops and women working side-by-side with local civilian populations helping build vital infrastructure like hospitals and airfields vital for military operations across much of North America including Europe where troops were based some 1,500 miles away from home.] Moorhead experienced rapid growth following World War II with single family homes becoming available all throughout town thanks largely to Interstate Highway 55 which connected it directly with other major cities like Minneapolis/StPaul while also opening up new areas like University Boulevard and West Bank Drive making it easy for people commuting into town or visiting family members living there to get within walking distance without ever having to leave their house or neighborhood] Moorhead has since seen continuing growth due largely to its status as an education center with numerous universities surrounding it offering degrees from arts & sciences through business & management through health care technology]
