This was a time before espresso machines became common, so these Italians used hand-roasted alfalfa as their basecoffee. This style led to some of the most distinctive and well-known artisanal coffees in history – such as Peet’s Coffee Company’s nitro cold brew and Starbucks' Sumatra Java roast. During World War II, many American soldiers stationed overseas brought home buckets of fresh roasted beans from Europe or Asia. These soldiers turned their homes into cafes where they enjoyed drip coffee until hostilities ended. As war drained resources away from traditional roasting houses, more local enthusiasts took up the challenge of creating unique cupcakes with their own roasted beans. This trend continued after the war – people began making small batches of specialty coffees at home in an effort to maintain a unique voice within the industry. One important player in this growth was Bob Adams Coffee Roasters (BACR), which opened its first store in 1964 in Seattle’s Pioneer Square district. BACR was founded by Bob Adams Sr., who had been purchasing roasted bean supplies online since his son Bob Jr.'s college days at Washington State University (WSU). At first, BACR operated under two names – Bob's Coffee & Tea and The Cooper Stand – but eventually changed its name to simply BACR after purchase of several thousand pounds of premium Arabica beans from Death Valley plantation owner Donald Atherton during 1990–1991 season (the year Robusta became legal). In 1993, BACR introduced its first espresso machine - called a “bottega” - which helped solidify its status as one of Seattle’s leading roasteries by introducing high-quality espresso drinks at competitive prices for consumers outside the city center marketplaces (). Many came to settle near what is now Minneapolis-St. Paul because there was plenty of land available – especially around Hennepin County’s central region – which made it easy for them to find work and purchase property along with some supplies needed for subsistence agriculture like flour and eggs (though many also managed to import goods like machinery). Around 1861, when Minneapolis-St. Paul became a city Limits residents attempted unsuccessfully to petition county commissioners asking them rename their village “Minteonken” but this failed so they reverted back to their original name: “Minnetonkah” until 1865 when they changed it again (* note: This change likely occurred dueldom restrictions on changing surnames)to become “Minteonka” following incorporation into Hennepin County.* [*Note2] After becoming part of Hennepin County*, MINNETONKA continued thriving thanks largely to Scandinavian immigration into America; regardless much later changes may have been made without provocation* [* Note3] In 1915 whites left MINNETONKA leaving behind 2% black American citizens who had migrated since 1880* [*Note4] Nevertheless various efforts have been made throughout recent decades towards reconnecting descendants with ancestors who lived here before these changes took place; primarily through genealogical research conducted by organizations such as Ancestry.* [* Note5] As one result today white inhabitants numbering about 95% are still majority ethnic Norwegian while Black Americans (<1%) comprise less than 3% * [* Note6] Whileminority groups continue struggling economically*, overall MINNETONKA has seen steady development over time making it one of America's most vibrant communities* [*Note7].
