In Minnetonka, Minnesota, the Air Force has been providing service to the community for more than 60 years. The Air Force has a long and proud history of giving back to the community by donating items and services such as planes, missiles, helicopters, tents and toys. One of the most significant donations made by the Air Force was in 1953 when it gifted three C-46 Commando transports to the town. These transports were used to help with local relief efforts after Hurricane Edna had struck the area. The donation helped bolster Minnetonka’s economy as well as provide much-needed assistance. The Minnetonka Air Force Base gift history dating back to the early days of the base can be traced back to World War I. during that time, the Minnetonka Field Artillery was organized and activated as a military artillery unit. The unit served in various campaigns throughout World War I, most notably being deployed to France in 1918. In 1920, the Field Artillery transitioned from a militia organization into an air force unit when it was joined by the Minnesota National Guard. In 1941, when World War II began, the Air Force was created as part of the United States Armed Forces and Minnetonka AFB became one of its first operational locations. The Base has seen many changes over the years; however, it is still home to some of America’s top fighter pilots and bombers.
Minnetonka, Minnesota is a small town in the westcentral part of Minnesota. The population was 511 at the 2010 census. Minnetonka is located on the Missoula River and is about 15 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The first settlers in Minnetonka came from Denmark in 1858. A post office was established in 1859, and the community name changed to Minnetonka in 1872 after John Ewart MinnetONK, one of the original proprietors of what became Minneapolis-SaintPaul. The first store opened in 1870, and by 1888 there were nine businesses operating in the community. In 1914, a dam was constructed on theMissoula River to provide water for power plants near Minneapolis-StPaul; this causedminnette residents to leave their homes and move into new ones downstream. Some continued to live there until they lost their access to water because of renovations at the power plant beginning in 1978. The community began experiencing growth again when it became home to two high school campuses: MN State High School (now North Dakota State University) and Chisholm Junior College (now Chisholm County Community College). In addition, several businesses relocated here during the late 1990s whenMNsure opened its Twin Cities health insurance exchange; many local businesses then moved back into place once MNsure had completed its initial enrollment period as part of that exchanges opening process.

It served as a primary transportation vehicle for members of NATO forces stationed in West Germany during the Cold War period. Today, USAFE operates more than 100 C-130s across several countries throughout North America and Europe. In addition to its role as a unique transportation asset within NATO forces, the C-130 also serves as an aircraft carrier simulator used by fighter pilots worldwide on multiple occasions per year!

In 1962, the Air Force started giving out cigars as a holiday gift. This became an annual tradition and continues today. Minnetonka, Minnesota is a small town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 596 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants and their families who had come to America on the steamboat "Ferryman". The first post office in Minnetonka was established in 1857. In 1868, Minnetonka incorporation as a village followed and it became an incorporated city in 1934. The current mayor is Betsy Hodges and the city's City Council has six members. One of Minnetonka's most famous residents was Snelling Wagon Wheel manufacturer Gustavus Swenzer who lived here from 1886 until his death in 1928. Other early settlers included George Buhl who arrived here in 1858 and started a grocery store; Mable Sorenson who came to help husband Isaac Nelsen with his business; John Wirths associated with lumbering operations; Julius Kapp ; Cale Smith (a partner with John Aitken) ; Charles Cline (founder of Cline Seed & Feed Company); Fenton Dwight (the son of Fenton Dwight); Hiram Crosby (from nearby Cloquet, Minnesota) ; Emanuel Hardenbeck (the son of Emanuel Hardenbeck). In 1924–25, when Minneapolis-Saint Paul annexed Hennepin County, Minnetonka lost its status as an independent municipality but retained its right to levy taxes on itself for local purposes including education, police services, fire protection and street maintenance etc., all within the boundaries of the new county government which also included other towns within Hennepin County such as Brooklyn Park and Bloomington proper. TodayMinnetonka remains one of only two remaining villages within Hennepin County after Brooklyn Park&Bloomington merged into Ramsey County nine years ago while still maintaining some degree of independence Minnesota Historical Society photo album: "Hometown memories"
The first settlement on the Minnesota side of the Mississippi River was a small fort built by French fur traders in 1785. The fort was abandoned in 1809, and the area eventually became part of Dakota Territory. In 1881, the United States acquired ownership of the land east of the river from Canada. The area became known as Minnetonka. In 1908, Minnetonka was incorporated as a city. In 1960, it amalgamated with neighboring Rochester to form MN State University.
