The Coast Guard Gift History in Minneapolis, Minnesota began on December 21, 1916 when the first detachment of Coast Guards was organized at the old Minneapolis Naval Station. The original Coast Guard unit consisted of three boats and a few men. On December 31, 1916 the first operational patrol was made from our new station when two fishing boats were sent out to intercept a German submarinemarine that had been spotted off the coast. This event is considered to be the genesis of our modern Coast Guard service in Minneapolis. In 1948, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act which provided for an additional $1 million for training and equipment for the Coast Guard. This money funded construction of new stations along the shoreline in Duluth, Minn., Rochester Hills and St. Paul including our current Headquarters Building at 5th Avenue South and Lyndale Street in Minneapolis. The addition of these new stations helped to make us one of America’s most powerful maritime forces. Since then, we have always worked towards protecting our shores and fellow Americans with more than just words; we have come through action with overwhelming proof that we are there for you when you need us most. Our 128-year history is full of moments where everything went right - from rescuing people during emergencies to providing support during large events like Super Bowls or Olympics - but also countless moments where all seemed lost until something miraculous happened! In commemoration of their centennial this year, we are honoring some of the most significant Coast Guard gift histories. The first Coast Guard gift was a flagpole. Launched on December 8, 1892, at Fort Point lighthouse in Boston Harbor, the flagpole was one of many gifts given during that inaugural year. The flagpole is still used today as a symbol of the Coast Guard’s commitment to service. In 1923, the Chief Petty Officer Corps (CPO) wasestablished within the Coast Guard and became an all-volunteer force. This event marks a significant change for the Coast Guardsman because now he could be proud to carry out his duties wearing RPKAS (Retired Police K-9 Badge). On July 15th 1957,650 acres (256 hectares) of land were donated by James Irvine Grant in honor of members of both federal and state law enforcement agencies who had died in action or while serving during World War II. This area would later become known as Law Enforcement Park and remains one of the most popular locations for events within Law Enforcement District 2 today. It is also home to Headquarters Regional Command 3 which oversees all criminal investigative operations throughout Greater Boston region

The city of Minneapolis was founded on August 29, 1881, by Judge John H. Richardson and others in what is now the west side of downtown. The City of Minneapolis was incorporated on February 14, 1892. Downtown Minneapolis was first built up as a commercial district around the new University of Minnesota campus. Growth began to occur in the east side of downtown when streetcar lines were extended south from Saint Paul into Minneapolis in 1906. Many large businesses and apartment buildings were erected along Nicollet Mall in central Minneapolis during this period. After World War I, growth slowed due to low unemployment rates and increased manufacturing activity outside the city limits. However, following the war there was renewed growth as a result of population increases within the city limits and investments by local businesses in new transportation infrastructure such as streetcars and buses. In 1929, South Side Park became one of several landmarks which helped spur development along Hoyt Avenue north from downtown into Midtown (now called Little America). In 1938, construction began on Nicollet Place which would become one of the most important commercial districts in town with major tenants including JCPenney (later Sears), Kress Management Company ( later Kohl's), Ford Motor Company (later Chevrolet), Macy's Department Store, Steakhouse 1001 Nw., Hyatt Regency Hotel and many other stores. In 1965, King County voters passed an ordinance creating Metro Council which would have jurisdiction over planning and development within Twin Cities metropolitan area; this action helped spur further investment throughout cities within Metro Council boundaries with resultant changes to zoning ordinances across neighborhoods throughout town. This period also saw aggressive marketing campaigns by various civic entities such as First National Bank and Stinson Funeral Home - both early pioneers within downtown redevelopment - that led to extensive building projects at various points throughout town culminating in Nicollet Mall redevelopment beginning in 1970s which has since been considered one of the most successful urban revitalization efforts ever conducted in America
