He ordered a small quantity so that he could try them himself and report back to his company friends. In 1924, Mr. Cavanaugh's son became president of the company and decided to promote maga coffee as an indigenous bean variety in America. At first there were only a few hundred acres planted with maga coffee but now more than 20 thousand acres are under cultivation across America using this unique bean variety. Mendota Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located on the west bank of the Mendota Creek. The population was 7,848 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Minneapolis County after Minneapolis. According to the United States Census Bureau, Mendota Heights has a total area of , of which is land and is water. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mendota Heights were French fur traders in 1758 led by François Pélissier. By 1824, when Mendota Township was organized as a county subdivision, there were only a few residents living in what is now downtown Mendota Heights. The first post office was established in 1825 and named for General James Wilkinson (1768–1837), who had served as United States Commander-in-Chief during the Mexican War and who donated land for a military reservation around Fort Snelling on which modern day Minneapolis would be built later that year. In 1830, architect Moses Taylor designed one of America's earliest Gothic Revival homes in present day downtown Mendota Heights – his "Fountain View" home still stands today on Third Street between Maple Avenue and Court Avenue Aves., just east of where Interstate 55 currently runs across from its former location across from Pioneer Square Park). In 1835, when Dakota Territory was created from parts of Minnesota and Iowa under President Andrew Johnson's executive order 9240,"Mendota Township", along with other outlying areas including Richfield Township (now Falcon Heights) and White Earth Township (now Eveleth), became part of what is now Hennepin County.(Hennepin County Board v Hillsborough Co.), Incorporation papers filed December 24th,, 1835 list thirty eight landowners within "Mendota Township". One early settler hereabouts was Captain John Noyes who arrived May 10th 1840 while exploring what would become Hennepin County with his three native sons George Washington Noyes (14 years old), Nicholas Noyes (13 years old) & Josephine Noyes (10 years old). All three boys made their mark contributing materially to this fledgling community –George worked at the local store until about 1850; Nicholas operated an early gristmill; Josephine helped raise chickens for eggs until her husband got sick; she then ran a household goods store until her death circa 1880.) Many pioneers found success farming but many soon turned to manufacturing/commerce due to advances made by railroads/the internet etc….. 1st Methodist Episcopal Church built 1889 inside present day First Baptist Church building on Fourth Street NE also known as “Nelson House”….First Female Teacher hired HERE 1865…..The school district started teaching 8th grade here 1945……..Today our Senior Citizen Center offers social services…………….It’s been said that if you go back far enough you can find evidence that some folks lived here even before they set foot in this country……………………………………………………………..

Mendota Heights is a census-designated place in Mendota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Mendota Heights is located on the eastern edge of Mendota Township and its western border is that of Maplewood Township. The name "Mendota Heights" comes from a post office in this community which was established in 1884. Mendota Township was organized in 1887 and named for General George Armstrong Custer who died during the Boer War in South Africa. In 1902, Clara Barton opened her first school here and it remains one of the most important educational institutions in the community to this day. In 1915, local businessman Harry Allaire donated land to build an airport here which became known as Allaire Airport today. Allaire Airport served as a central hub for air travel throughout southern Minnesota until it closed its doors in 1980 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Jesse Ventura. However, over time much of what once were intended infrastructure functions have been restored or continue to be used by nearby Maplewood Airport including: apron markings, taxiways/elevators and runways/ramps; parallel streets running perpendicular to each other; and larger than life murals commemorating local aviation history (e.g., alluding to vintage Lindbergh photos). Today's airport provides general aviation access for residents and businesses near downtown Minneapolis only with some limited commercial flights taking place out of nearby Bloomington Regional Airport which includes both domestic passenger service (Havana Airlines) and charter services from around the world (Boeing). A large number of residents commute into downtown Minneapolis every day on various forms of public transportation including buses from Mendota Heights Transit Center or light rail from Target Field/University Line Station; walking or biking down Lyndale Street between Third Street & University Avenue; or using streetcars managed by Metro Transit Authority which stops right next door at Allaire Terminal Parkade along Lyndale Ave./University Avenue just east of Interstate 494!
