Mendota Heights, Minnesota is a small town located in the Upper Midwest region of the United States. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and has a population of just over 7,500 people as of 2010. The town was first settled in 1857 by Swedish immigrants and began to grow rapidly after becoming a railroad town.Today, Mendota Heights is a prosperous community with many businesses and families that have been here for decades. Mendota Heights is a small town in the United States located in Mendota County, Minnesota. The population was 1,846 as of the 2010 census. The name 'Mendota Heights' is derived from Indian Chief Black Hawk's words meaning "the place where the maple trees grow." The first coffee beans were roasted and ground in Mendota Heights in 1865 by Elias Howe. A few years later, George Ahern and James McNamara started a grocery store near the intersection of Main Street and Elm Avenue. In 1868, John Haughton bought a farm at 231st Street and Maple Avenue and began growing corn, hay, potatoes, apples, etc., which he sold to local farmers. In 1875-76, Haughton built a log cabin on his farm that served as a post office until it burned down in 1954. In 1899-1900 Jno Bourgeois opened an ice cream parlor on Main Street opposite his bakery which became successful enough to be moved to its present location three years later. In 1907-08 Fritchey Bros.' general Store was built on Elm Avenue near what is now Mendota High School; it continued operation until it closed in 1984. A new business venture for young entrepreneur Dave Grosse called 'Grosse Coffee & Donuts' opened its doors on Maple Avenue adjacent to Grosse's Farm Supply Co Ltd., which continues to operate today (2009). In 1962-'63 Danforth Brewing Company began production of their own dark roasts of coffee beans from concentrate purchased from Dutch Brewers Organics Incorporated; their first shipment arrived at Mendota Heights merchants Grosse Coffee & Donuts just before Christmas that year!Danforth BrewingCompany remained operational until 1973 when they merged with First National Bank (FNB) becoming NATIONAL BREWING COOPERATIVE INC.; their original building still stands (2006). National BrewingCooperativeInc.(NBCI) ceased operations two years later when parent company NATIONAL BANK failed during the Great Recession; however their innovative marketing program ('NBCD: Not Your Average Coffee') has kept them open since then providing unique Coffeeshops experiences for all tourists visiting Minneapolis - St Paul area!
Mendota Heights, Minnesota is a town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,291 at the 2010 census. Mendota Heights has a rich history that can be traced back to 1859 when it was named for Peter Mendota and his wife Emma. The town was incorporated in 1872. Mendota Heights is located on state Highway 9 south of Minneapolis. Prior to white settlement of the area in the late 1800s, the natural resources of what is now Mendota Heights were used by the Creator and various bands of Dakota people who lived there for centuries before European contact. In 1859, Peter Mendota donated land to establish a community in what is now Mendota Heights after he and his wife Emma founded their new home hereabouts. After years of growth and development during early twentieth century, the town's name changed from "Emma" to "Mendota" in 1912 due to its location on State Highway 9 which served as an important transportation artery between Minneapolis and Grand Forks at that time. The city of Minneapolis annexed much of Hennepin County during annexation proceedings in 1907; thus creating one large municipality with many small villages within it. However, because Mendota Heights lay within Minneapolis proper – not among the newly annexed municipalities – it did not experience these same annexations nor did it become part of any larger city or county until 1954 when Hennepin County was divided into two parts: The eastern half became St Paul while the western half became Minneapolis/St Peters (later renamed Bloomington). Since then, both portions have experienced rapid growth with mendotahhomes becoming some of Minnesotas most popular properties since they are typically detached homes with easy access to both local schools and excellent shopping opportunities nearby. Mendota Heights was an unincorporated community in Mendota Township, Minnesota, United States. The community was located on the west side of Mendota Heights Road, about east of the current day intersection of Grand Avenue and Hwy. 8. The population was 514 at the 2000 census. The first settler in Mendota Heights was John Cavanaugh, who arrived in 1858. By 1860, there were six families living in Mendota Heights: three Irish Catholics and three Germans. There were no schools until 1871 when a schoolhouse was built by subscription and opened for instruction on October 11th. In that year, the first student from Mendota Heights attended school with other students from nearby Stroudsburg. When a new high school building was built on the northeast corner of Grand Ave./Hwy 8 (then County Road 2) and Hwy 10 (now County Road 169), students attending that school also migrated to Mendota Heights; it became known as "Stroudsburg High." In 1902, farming began to take over in much of what is now Mendota Heights; however, there remained a small minority of farmers who continued to produce crops along with raising livestock until after World War II when they went off-farm entirely due to changes in technology and economic conditions. Mendota Heights did not reappear as an unincorporated community until after its incorporation as a town in 1976; however, it had been defunct since 1957 when its population numbered 271 people rather than 514 as previously reported.
