In 1868, Mendota Heights incorporated as a village with a population of 160 people. One of these men, John Sibley, decided to settle down in what would become Mendota Heights. He started a small grocery store and began growing corn and hay for his family. In 1904 he built a house which still stands today as one of the most iconic structures in town. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson visited Mendota Heights and dedicated a highway named after him in honor of his visit. The city has also been home to many famous people including author Yoko Ono, actor Robert Downey Jr., musician Neil Young and basketball player Rick Majerus. Today, Mendota Heights is an important cultural center for the region with its own theater district and multiple art galleries. There are also several restaurants and stores within walking distance of downtown Mendota Heights, making it easy to get around without having to leave your neighborhood!
