The Minnesota National Guard is one of the oldest and most powerful armories in the United States. The guard has been around since 1854, when a group of men from Marshall, Minnesota organized to protect the local farmers. The first national guard units were brought into being in 1861, during the American Civil War. For over 150 years, the Guard has played an important role in Minnesota society. Today, the Guard remains a vital part of our community. It provides law enforcement and security at various events throughout the state, including parades and holiday celebrations. In addition, it provides support to local fire departments and other public safety initiatives. Throughout its history, the National Guard has enjoyed strong bipartisan support. This is due in part to its reputation as an effective crime prevention force. In recent years, however, there have been some controversies surrounding members of the guard who have engaged in questionable behavior or exhibited racist leanings. Despite these challenges, however, I believe that members of national guard units nationwide continue to serve their country with distinction and pride. I am grateful for their service – both now and past – and look forward to continued cooperation between our communities and our military brass
The U.S. National Guard is a federal military force that is responsible for the defense of the U.S. homeland and its citizens. The National Guard has been in existence since 1775, when the Continental Congress created it to help maintain order during the American Revolution. In 1933, the National Guard was reorganized into two branches: regular army and air force components. The current structure of the National Guard was established in 1968, following passage of the Guardsmen Bill (Pt II). The Guardsmen Bill amended existing law to provide for a unified national guard system composed of both short-term and long-term soldiers who could be called up on short notice or upon expiration of their enlistment contracts. The Minnesota National Guard was created on March 16, 1908 as a result of the passage of the National Defense Act. The guard was first organized under the command of Colonel George Armstrong Custer. When World War I began, the Minnesota Guard was mobilized and served in several battles. In 1919, the guard became an all-volunteer force and also received its own training center. After World War II, the Minnesota National Guard continued to grow and underwent many changes. In 1960, it became an independent military service and then again amalgamated with other military services in 1992. Today, the Minnesota National Guard is responsible for providing security for national events across the state of Minnesota as well as support to state government agencies.
Marshall is a small town in Minnesota. It was founded in 1881 and exists today as a community of about 2,500 people. The name "Marshall" comes from the United States Cavalry's post at the junction of two rivers near Marshalltown. The first settlers in Marshall were farmers who arrived from Illinois in 1881. They built a log cabin on the banks of the river and started raising crops. In 1902, they organized themselves into a town government and began to build a courthouse and jail. They also constructed a school, churches, and other public buildings. The town experienced some prosperity during World War II when military personnel stationed there generated an income that helped fund local needs. However, after the war ended, Marshall began to decline until the early 21st century when it experienced an economic rebirth thanks to its proximity to Minneapolis-St Paul and its status as an agricultural center.

The third national guard gift was given in 1865 by Ulysses S Grant to General Winfield Scott after he had won the Battle of Gettysburg. This gift consisted of six cannons, four horses, sixteen wagons, and two hundred men. The fourth National Guard Gift was given in 1899 by William McKinley to Major General John Pershing during World War I. This gift included twelve artillery pieces, twenty machine guns, seventy-five cavalry officers and troopers, and four thousand soldiers from all over America. In 1945, President Harry Truman presented the nation with its fifth National Guard Gift which consisted of sixty pieces of equipment including fifteen tanks, thirty armored cars (including an experimental type known as “Claymore”), fifty infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), five artillery pieces (two howitzers and three mortars),and two navy vessels - USS Olympia (CGN-10) and USS Brooklyn (CN-8). These gifts represented a major change in the way that National Guards were used within America since they were now used as combat units rather than support units.

Marshall, Minnesota is a small town in the Driftless Area of southwestern Minnesota. It was founded in 1881 by farmers who had to leave their original homes because of the Sioux War. The Marshall post office was established in 1883. The first school in Marshall was built on the site of the present day courthouse in 1885. In 1912, a new high school and two elementary schools were built. A community center was also built in 1984. The Marshall Volunteer Fire Department has been serving Marshall since 1903. The fire department responded to 721 fires between 1903 and 2009.
Marshall was founded in 1854 by Captain John Marshall and his wife, Miss Anna. The town was named for Captain Marshall because he led a wagon caravan through the area in search of a new home for his family. At first, the town consisted of just a few log buildings. However, over time, the town grew and developed into an important rural community with a store, schoolhouse, post office, and other facilities. Marshall residents played an important role in the development of their community and country. They worked together to build roads and bridges, erected barns and homes, raised crops and livestock, built churches and schools,and helped to create the county government that exists today.
The Minnesota National Guard is a military reserve unit of the United States federal government. The unit was first organized on November 15, 1851 as the 10th RegimentMinnesota Volunteer Infantry. The regiment was redesignated the 11th RegimentMinnesota Volunteer Infantry on October 24, 1861. The regiment was mobilized and mustered into Federal service on December 16, 1861 under the command of Colonel John Sutter. After spending four years in garrison duty at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, the regiment moved to Cairo, Illinois on February 17, 1865 and relieved the 1st Missouri Volunteers at that place. On April 12th Governor Andrew Johnson called for all Minnesotans to join in making war against Confederate forces south of the river Mississippi. About 2200 men fromDetachment 2ST MN National Guard joined General George Armstrong Custer's 7TH Cavalry Brigade at Pea Ridge Battlefield near Stroudsburg am Rhine River Germany on April 14-15 1865. On July 5th 1862 Major John Rodgers became Military Advisor to Brigadier General Robert Ewing during his occupation of Washington D.C.. When Major Rodgers resigned his commission he became an officer with this organization serving until May 1863 when he resigned his commission due to ill health. He returned home and resumed civilian life before becoming an inspector general for public works in Minneapolis in 1867-1868 then commissioner of highways from 1869-1871; Superintendent of Schools from 1872-1876; Mayor (from 1880-1882)and finally State Auditor from 1886-1892 In 1888 Governor James Kiefer appointed him Lieutenant Colonel status with Militia Department effective July 1st 1890 except for three months 1893 while stationed at Buffalo Soldiers Barracks Iowa during World War I In 1895 he retired as Lt Col and died January 3rd 1896 At age 89 years 3 months
