Maplewood is home to the first commercial coffee roaster in Minnesota. The first coffee beans were roasted here in 1853 by Nicholas Tilton and his brother-in-law, John Doherty. The beans were ground up and sold at local stores before being moved to the larger Roebuck Coffee Plantation in Crystal City, MN in 1867. In 1912, Don Kesselman opened the first grocery store in Maplewood. He began selling coffee beans and other food items from his store until he closed it down in 1957. In 1977, Bob Kroeger founded Bob's Coffee & Tea on Second Street in downtown Maplewood with a small batch of coffee beans sourced from Tilton's original roastings plant. Today, Bob's Coffee & Tea is one of the oldest Starbucks locations in Minnesota. The city was home to a number of other businesses which specialized in various aspects of coffee including Imports from Brazil (1893), Dutch Coffee (1910), Turkish Coffee (1913), Italian Coffee House (1921), American Creameries - Farmer's Market Store (1945) and Bean 'n' Biscuit Emporium (1964).
Maplewood is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census, making it the 9th-most populous city in Minnesota. Maplewood is located in southeastern Minnesota on the Mississippi River and borders Minneapolis to the east and south, Stroudsburg to the northwest, and Eden Prairie to the west. The first white settlers in what is now Maplewood were Issac and Jacob Schmidt who arrived from Germany in 1824. In 1834, John Prentice took possession of land that would become Maplewood after being granted a patent for 640 acres (2 km²). In 1836, five families moved into an area that would later be known as Elm Grove Township: David Lowry, Henery Armstrong, Ebenezer Laddie, Solomon Beer and Job Price. In 1840, John Prentice sold his land to Isaac Muhlenberg who founded Muhlenberg Brewery which became one of America's largest breweries by 1860. By 1870 there were over 100 businesses operating within what is now Maplewood including 31 banks with a total circulation of 1 million dollars (the equivalent of $30 billion today). In 1862 when Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States, he appointed Andrew Johnson as Secretary of War; Johnson had been mayor of Baltimore during Lincoln's time as Mayor Pro Tem. When Johnson was sworn into office on April 12th 1865 he noted "in Cases Reserved by Congress" - meaning those involving slavery - "I do solemnly swear that I will not Seek nor Retain Office under any Cover or Protection from Discharge". As part of this promise Johnson ordered all federal troops out of Alabama effective May 15th 1865; this order included some soldiers stationed at Fort Snelling which served as Camp Dakota until October 15th 1865 when all US troops were mustered out acrossMinnesota states except for a detachment at Fort Snelling which continued operations until November 8th 1865 . On December 10th 1865 only 5 men remained at Fort Snelling garrisoning 400 rifles against an estimated 2200 Confederate troops positioned along river bank; these riflemen held off Confederate attempts to crossriver until January 16th 1886 when Union forces burned down fortifications leaving no standing structure remaining

Maplewood is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It was founded in 1872 by Swedish immigrants, and it became a borough in 1916. Maplewood is located on the Mississippi River, about 25 miles (40 km) north-northwest of Minneapolis. The population was 5,623 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what would become Maplewood was Lars Olson, who arrived with his family in 1872 from Småland, Sweden. In 1879, Ole Olsen acquired 7 acres (2 hectares) of land southwest of present-day Maplewood and began to build a cabin there. In 1880, he married Johanne Hansen and they started to raise crops on their new property. TheOlsen farmstead remained the central business district of Maplewood until after World War II when it transitioned into an agricultural center for neighboring rural areas such as Marshalltown and St Cloud.[1] In 1916, following annexation by Minneapolis,[2] Maplewood became part of the city limits as Minneapolis grew larger than any one town within its boundaries. However, most residents continued to reside inside the municipal limits until after the merger during which time maplewoodside businesses relocated out into downtown Minneapolis proper;[3][4][5] while some continued operation out near Lyndale Avenue South until 1978 when all businesses moved into One First Avenue North.[6] Today's community is built around two core values: service excellence and community engagement through education and programming opportunities;[7][8][9][10] both delivered through its various organizations including organizations that serve kids like MAPLEWOOD Hockey team,[11] Build A House Day,[12], Furniture For Less Day,[13], Lakeshore CleanUp Days[14], Mothers Against Drunk Driving Month[15],[16], Dignity Village – home to people with mental illness -[17],[18],[19],[20]; as well as its own police department that provides law enforcement services throughout much of centralMinnesota; youth sports leagues like soccer/football/baseball teams like Team Canada Soccer or Ultimate Frisbee League clubs such as Starlite Youth Football Club or Timberwolves Ultimate Frisbee Club which compete against other nearby townships in tournaments across Minnesota each spring;and many more local events throughout the year!
