Maplewood is a small town in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St.Paul metropolitan area. The Maplewood School District serves portions of Maplewood and Park Ridge. The first European settler in what is now Maplewood was Nicholas Jorgensen in 1857. In 1869, John Davenport arrived and built a sawmill on the present site of the old Nokia factory. As maple syrup production increased throughout the 1870s, maple sugar beets were planted to provide sugar for farmers in other parts ofMinnesota and Wisconsin who also produced bacon, waffles, pies and other items from tree sap or honeydews extracted from wild bees living around these harvesting sites. In 1902 James Hargrave opened a grocery store on Main Street which would become one of the largest stores in town until it closed its doors in 1984. A post office called Maplewood was established at this location on December 12, 1893; it served until July 6th, 1944 when it changed its name to Elk River Falls because of concerns about confusion with another post office near Elk River Falls (Edina). The first high school in Maplewood was organized as Dakota High School District No 2 on August 15th 1929 under the leadership of Principal Homer Waddell with instruction provided by Rural Schools Superintendent Dolphus Laughlin Jr.. On October 1st 1932 Dakota High School became part of Stroudsburg Area Unitary School District #4 which then became Forest Lake-Hennepin County Boardman–Dakota Consolidated School District No 10 on January 1st 1935 when that district merged into Minneapolis-St Paul public school system after years of controversy over boundary changes within county lines caused by various family feuding over land grants.) From 1936 to 1941 there were four different principals for Dakota HS – George Pourman (1936-39), Forrest Pomeroy (1940-41), Julius Larson (1942-45) and Cecil Kappes (1946-49). Thereafter most teachers taught at Dakota until 1971 when they all moved to Minneapolis/St Paul Central High Schools where they remain today including Headteacher Bob Smith who retired last year after more than fifty years teaching at Dakota HS! In addition to Bob Smith’s retirement many others have held prominent positions within our ever growing local education community such as: Assistant Superintendent Bill Weisman since 2001; Athletic Director Donnie Sprague since 2006; Assistant Superintendent Michaela Nielsen since 2009; & Physical Education Coordinator Sheri Sieverssince 2013! Today there are only three students enrolled in grades 7 through 12 out of a total enrollment that has grown from 256 students during WW II when much larger schools were located nearby like Elmira Municipal Junior College which housed grades 9 through 12 along With classes offered by Lincoln Heights Senior High School across Elmira Avenue from our current building! Our current elementary building was built between 1966 and 1969 after we relocated from Southdale Elementary which had been destroyed by fire just prior to its opening! We still use some older materials like parts from demolished Southdale Elementary but we really put our heart into making this new building beautiful & functional! Classes start back up again tomorrow morning September 25th so enjoy your time here while you can before things get too busy again next year 🙂

Maplewood is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,788 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Maplewood was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1854 as a summer settlement on the edge of what is now Rochester, Minnesota. The first settler named Maplewood was Axel Jönsson. The township of Maplewood was organized in 1855 and became a separate municipality in 1909 when it annexed parts of neighboring townships of Eden Prairie and White River Township. In 1857, construction began on the Grandview Arsenal Ammunition Plant near present-day Maplewoods Secondary School which would become one of the largest military arsenals in North America during World War I and II.
