Maple Grove is a small town located in the state of Minnesota. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. Maple Grove is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is adjacent to Bloomington, Minnesota. The first settlers in what would become Maple Grove were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1836. They built a log cabin on the east side of the stream that later became known as Maple Grove Road. In 1846, American farmers started to arrive in what would become Maple Grove and they soon established a farmstead there. By 1870, maple trees were being grown throughout much of what is now Maple Grove Township, including some along Main Street which served as a main route for goods and passengers between Bloomington and Minneapolis. In 1894, Dutch immigrants founded a farmstead on the west side of Elmwood Creek just north of present day Maple Grove Road. This was one of the first American farms in that area and it continued to be operated by descendants of its original owners until it was sold to George Hennepin County in 1916. Maple Grove experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its strategic location as an important training ground for military personnel stationed within Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport (MSP). When war ended, many jobs vacated after enlistment or returned home while others went into displaced persons camps around the Twin Cities because so many businesses had been destroyed during combat or bombed by Allied forces. Some residents decided to stay behind and start their own homes while others traded places with people already living there temporarily or permanently due to wartime travel restrictions such as those placed on Americans entering Germany after Pearl Harbor . Maple Grove is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 6,914 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Ramsey County. Maple Grove was platted in 1878. The first post office in Maple Grove was established in 1879. The city was named for John A. Maple, a settler who arrived in1868 from Quebec and founded the town of Maple Grove on land that he donated to the Territory of Minnesota. The first school in Maple Grove opened in 1881 and continued operations until it closed in 1902 due to financial problems. In 1886, a new school building was built and served as the city's government center until 1911 when it burned down. In 1903, the Minneapolis–St Paul Railway crossed over Highway 3 at what is now Park Boulevard and routed through town; this caused problems for local businesses which could not compete with larger rivals on one side of town while service yards were located on another side of highway. When railroad officials realized their mistake they began to build an interchange near where Park Boulevard meets Interstate 94 (now I-94) so that traffic could flow into and out of town easily without having to go through downtown Minneapolis or cross over Highway 3 again. In 1909, following the opening of Interstate 94 and changes to roadway design by state engineer George Stephenson, Mayor John Pappenheimer petitioned for municipal incorporation because he felt that township governments would be too weak to handle phone lines, sewers, fire protection and other needs required for metropolitan cities like Minneapolis-Saint Paul while still providing some degree of self-government within their boundaries On October 10th 1909 mapiro certified by Mayor John Pappenheimer pursuant to section 9609(2) MN Statutes Maple Grove Is hereby incorporated as a City Within Its Limits’ On December 5th 1910 Anne Latham became FirstMayor
