Maple Grove is a small town located in the heart of Minnesota. The population was 4,811 at the 2000 census and 3,551 in 2010. Maple Grove's history dates back to 1855, when a group of farmers named Freeman set up a farm on the east side of what is now Maple Grove. The first store in Maple Grove was opened in 1857 by Isaac Morse and his brother-in-law Solomon Wright. The early coffee roasters in Maple Grove were some of the best in the country. Some of these roasters include: Oneida Coffee Company (founded 1888), Central Roasting Company (founded 1912), Dutch Bros Coffee Company (founded 1916), and Philips Coffee Company (founded 1922). In 1954, Harry Kapp founded Kapp's Coffee Corporation, which became one of the largest coffee companies in the United States. In 1984, Harry Kapp sold his company to Peet's Coffee Incorporated for $2 million. In 1998, Peet's merged with Dutch Bros Coffee Corporation to form Dunkin' Donuts Corporation. In 2006, Starbucks Corp. acquired Dunkin' Donuts from Peet's for $13 billion. Maple Grove is a town in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,581 at the 2010 census. Maple Grove was established in 1854 and named for a grove of maple trees near the town's original site. The first school in Maple Grove was built in 1858. In 1871, the village of Maple Grove merged with the larger town of Le Sueur to form what is now known as Maple Grove-Le Sueur. The first post office in Maple Grove was opened on February 15, 1865. The Minneapolis-St Paul Railway passed through Maple Grove in 1892 and it became an important transportation hub for local farmers and business people during the 19th century. By 1915, when oil production began to increase along Interstate 94 (I-94), businesses such as meatpacking plants and lumber mills moved into towns such as White Bear Lake and Foley that were west of I-94. Gasoline stations began appearing along I-94 EB from Crystal City north to Hibbing by 1922; however, no gas stations were located within walking distance of downtown until after World War II when rural residents started moving into cities for work during peacetime boom times. In 1957, when Le Sueur County voters voted to become part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area due to population growth within its borders, Maple Grove became one of many communities annexed into the city proper – becoming a core community rather than just a satellite community around its larger sister city; today much of what once constituted downtown Maple Grove is served by Loop 3A Minneapolis–Saint Paul Transit Authority bus lines or streetcars operated by Metro Transit Service throughout much of it including most notably Macy’s department store which occupies two blocks east across Zimmerman Avenue from Main Street before continuing south past First Avenue onto Cedar Avenue serving both campuses thereof until its closure in 1967 following fire damage limitations set forth by then Mayor Julius Erving despite objections from considerable majorities among residents over their concerns about traffic congestion on primary intersections numbered 2nd Street & Cedar avenue whence Boulevard proceeded northeast via Hennepin Avenue exit #1 thence paralleling Marquette Drive entering East Grand Forks adjacent thereto until reaching Wacker Drive oppositeEast Grand Forks high school thence northeasterly turning eastward briefly meeting US Highway 169 passing northwest soon enterprising home builder Eldon George Olsen’s property adjoining Park Rapids unincorporated territory lying between Heitkamp Road & Clearwater Creek frontage line thereby forming contiguous block or parcels bounded:northwest side by Park Rapids Road easterly side by heitkamp road cornering heitkamp land parcel number 8 therein contain ing 4 dwelling units each containing 2 bedrooms & full bath w/toilet & sink combination also garage attached therefor northerly limit westerly side one acre lot included therein
