At that point, there were just a few firearm stores in town. The first store to sell handguns was set up by J.B. Weirick and Fenton Wesson at 5th and Main Streets. They sold pistols and rifles only, but they did well enough to warrant another store opening up two years later at 7th and Main Street by Elisha Sayer & Sons! This new store became known as the Armoury! By 1912, there were six businesses selling firearms in Maple Grove! That number grew to eleven when George Whitehead opened his business at 6th and Main Street! He became known as the Gunsmith King because he stocked both pistols and rifles from top to bottom! He also helped start the local Rifle Association, which continues today as one of the most influential organizations in town! The popularity of pistols continued through World War I (1914-18), but then things changed with the advent of firearms into World War II (1939-1945). At this time, people had to be licensed to purchase firearms in order to own them! And even then, not everyone could own a weapon due to licensing restrictions!! In 1949, five years after George Whitehead’s death, Maple Grove completely turned into a Gun Culture hub with newsstands starting up all over town selling firearms!!! Five more years passed before handgun sales returned home control back into hands of individual citizens once again!! In 1978 (!), we celebrated our centennial year with an outdoor gathering at City Park where “The Mayor” presented us with our very own armoury !!

Maple Grove is a small town in Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,644 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Hibbing-based Dakota County seat of Maple Grove. Maple Grove is one of the most rural communities in Minnesota and has a population density of just over 1 person per square mile (0.4 people per square kilometer). The community began as a farming village on the edge of what is now Maple Grove Township, about two miles east of present day Hibbing. In 1892, George Wetherbee purchased 2,500 acres (10 km²) of land from David Rice and others to build what would become Maple Grove Township. The name “Maple Grove” was chosen because many maples were found near where the town now stands. By 1903, there were about 100 residents in Maple Grove Township and 2 buildings had been erected: a Methodist church and schoolhouse. In 1904, part of present day Hibbing township became added to maple grove township; by 1907 maple grove had increased its population to 10 residents and 4 buildings including an Amish farmstead had been erected within it. In 1916 John Cramer opened his first general store in the community; this store remains open to this day as Cedar Hills General Store #2 LLC (). On July 20th 1920, a post office called "Cedar Hills" was established in maple grove by Mrs.(?) Hildebrandt with assistance from Cora Hildebrandt Armstrong who donated 5¢ for each postcard mailed out (). That same year MapleGrove incorporated under state law (). By 1928 there were 30 residents living within the limits of present-day Maple grove township while 3 buildings still stood: an old Ford car dealership built around 1924 which became known as "Haley's", an old grocery store which was razed around 1969 but replaced by another grocery store built later that same year also known as Haley's before finally being razed again around 2002 (), and finally an old cotton gin/poultry house which served as a garage for many years until it too was razed around 2002(). Although agriculture dominated early life at maple grove, other businesses soon followed suit such as grain elevator service operated by A & W Elevator Co.,attrackservices operates by Jens Jensen & Sons Incorporated (), ice cream parlor N&N Dairy ()(), pie shop Betty's Pies (), three convenience stores (Ace Hardware Co., Dunham's Drug Store (), Durkin's Grocery ), along with several manufacturing businesses including Cedar Hills Canning Works ()() and Bakken Grain Mill (). Despite being quite remote from most major cities during its earliest years, maple grove quickly developed into one of Hibbing’s most vibrant villages with active involvement both local government AND business communities serving their needs!

In 1875, the township became a city and the post office continued to be called Maple Grove City until it closed in 1984.
