The Coast Guard has been in the Mankato area for over 120 years. It began as a small boat patrol service, and evolved into today’s coast guard with its primary mission of providing safe and secure coastal communities. The Coast Guard also offers a variety of other services, such as search and rescue, law enforcement, and maritime protection. In 1892, the first coast guard station was established in Mankato. At that time, it was only a small boat patrols service. In 1937, the first lighted warning beacon was placed at milepost 9 on the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. In 1942, the first lifeboat was stationed in Mankato. Today there are six lifeboats stationed in Mankato; three on the north side of town and three on the south side. In 1951, the Coast Guard purchased a helicopter to provide coastal security services from Clearwater Harbor in Stonington, Conn.. This helicopter continued to be used by the Coast Guard until 1984 when it was replaced by an MH-60P Seahawk helicopter which continues to be used today!

The Mankato Coast Guard Foundation was founded in 1988 by Capt. Rick Hanson and Lt. John Dickey with the goal of promoting maritime safety and security on the Great Lakes region. The foundation has since grown to become a statewide organization working to protect shorelines, waterways, and communities from hazards such as piracy, drugs, andterrorism.
Mankato, Minnesota is a small town in southern Minnesota. The population was 5,052 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hennepin County and part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The city's history goes back to 1856 when it was founded as a station on the Great Northern Railway. Mankato grew rapidly during World War II as an important munitions manufacturing center, but has since declined in terms of economic importance. The city is home to the University of Minnesota–Mankato and two hospitals, Mayo Clinic and Rush Medical Center.
The Coast Guard has been providing essential service to our communities for more than a century. From the early days of the Coast Guard when ships were used to patrol and protect coastal areas, to today’s capabilities through helicopter transport and cyber-security, the Coast Guard has always had a presence in our communities. And while it may seem like every year there is a new gift to be given, gifts from members of the public have long been an important part of Coast Guard history. In 1903, Congress passed an act that established the United States Coast Guardsmen as volunteers who would help protect America’s coastline. The first coast guard stations were set up along the East and West Coasts of America and within two years there were over 100 coastguardsmen operating throughout America. By 1915, there were over 1,500 coastguardmen located throughout the country. In 1924, Congress authorized $5 million for coastal defense research and development which led to creation of the Helicopter Coastal Surveillance Squadron (HCSS) in 1935. This squadron was responsible for flying helicopters off American shores to detect problems with navigation or other maritime activity not covered by other units such as submarines or planes. Throughout its history, the Coast Guard has relied on donations from individuals and organizations alike in order to keep our community safe. Gifts from citizens have helped support missions such as search-and-rescue operations during hurricanes Katrina and Sandy; maintaining law enforcement patrols; funding research into new technologies needed for coastal protection; and much more. As we continue work together to provide essential services ensuring our safety at home and abroad, we are grateful for all that donors have done for us!

Mankato, Minnesota is located in the upper Great Lakes region and has been inhabited by Native Americans for over a millennium. The first European to visit Mankato was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. The area that now includes Mankato was known as Nemaha County until 1851 when it became part of Dakota Territory. In 1907, the City of Mankato was incorporated and in 1912, the State of Minnesota proclaimed the city an official town. The city had a population of only 100 residents in 1914 when it joined the United States military as Fort Snelling Garrison. When World War I began, Mankato served as one of three American fronts along the Western Front. Despite this importance, little development took place in Mankato during wartime because there were no funds available to support such activities. However, after victory at Ypres Bridge over the Somme River in 1918, money flooded into Europe and American businesses started to come back online within months. This newfound wealth helped spur growth throughout 1920s and 1930s in both Minneapolis and St Paul; however, growth came to a stop during World War II because there were no war-related jobs available for civilians or soldiers in either city. In 1945, when Minnesota entered into statehood as a US state, Mankato became its capital; however, due to jurisdictional issues with neighboring cities like Rochester (now Northfield) and Morris (now Bloomington), neither city saw much growth until after their incorporation into states themselves during 1955-1956 period under then-Governor Orville Freeman . Growth resumed rapidly following statehood but stalled again during Vietnam era as many jobs left for overseas assignments or were lost due to technological advancements which made manufacturing more difficult also making transportation more expensive than before which drained local economies even further most notably leaving tax revenues short by 1966 despite having an estimated population close to 350k people only touched $5 million from statewide coffers that year while suburban areashosted 1/3 of all county residents income level earning an average $30k+ per year while rural countiesblogspotpped out with just under $10k). Migration from rural areas (particularly those jobless relative to urban centers)to suburban neighborhoods between 1970s onward led directly or indirectly (in terms of household size)to increase poverty rates among innercity African Americans especially since these neighborhoods retained large numbers of traditional agricultural households tied closely thereto . Additionally , increased crime rates have often coincided with periods when innercity populations have been growing fastest: from 1971 through 1984’s “welfare queen” era until 2000’s crack cocaine epidemic . Mankato is bordered on three sides by Green Bay on the north side; Chippewa County on the east side; and Dodge County on the south side forming what is called “the triad” boundary geographically speaking although historically speaking it has been more like foursquare rather than contiguous land bounded only by waterways - Lake Superior being outside that zone entirely Mankatos early history can be traced back centuries before European contact;; archeological evidence indicates human activity here goes back at least 8500 years ago according to various studies carried out both hereabouts & abroad including finds dating back 7200 BC! A prehistoric village discovered near present day Hibbing contained evidence showing traders traveling through here circa 3000 BC mannerly trading goods including pottery & spear points imported from Siberia! The current community here dates back primarily around 1800 AD although some structures date back up 1000 AD ..... settlers first arrived around 1812 when Jedediah Smith set foot upon what would later become known as Wright Street.. By 1830 they had erected two wooden buildings northwest of where today's First National Bank building stands.. One story wooden structure measuring 60x40 feet used for government meetings upstairs prioritizing debate over treaties & other important matters vs farming belowground using hoes,, axes etc…. On July 6th 1830 propelling Changes That Led Toregulated Mining And Manufacturing In AmericaA resolution condemning unfair competition among leading mining companies was passed at this meeting setting off explosive business next door @ First National Bank where John Densmore ran things (& still does!)…it wasn't long before others followed suit& within 10 years Dayton Land Co., Midwestern Copper Mines Inc., Buffalo Creek Mining Company had opened up shop right across Wright Street! entrepreneurs referTo this time period locally as "The Gold Rush"! It didn't take long before another group decided they wantedIn too – so did eastern timber merchants who organized themselves into lumber juries which met every few weeks inside First National Bank building against anyone who dared cross their path—- everyone pretty much got what they asked for except maybe one small business owner who successfully appealed his jury trial ruling)... lots happened during this inaugural golden age OF MINNESOTA BUSINESSES! However not everything went well& starting out lifeAs usual things did not stay good forever…..By 1836 gold fever had taken hold pricing homes down 50%+, businesses closed up shop & many people ended up homeless……….
