Coffee beans were originally grown in Africa, but they started to be traded across the ocean about two thousand years ago. In 1624, Portuguese sailors discovered Java island and began trading with the locals. They brought back plants and seeds from Indonesia which gave rise to the firstvariety of coffee beans – Javas. The term "coffee" was first used in 1546 by Italian navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano when he reported seeing a ship filled with beans on the coast of Java. He called them "caffè", or espresso, which is still used today to describe this type of coffee. The Dutch began importing Javas into their country in 1638 and named them after themselves – Koffie (coffee). By 1700, Koffie had spread throughout Holland and Belgium. In 1795, Frenchmen discovered Brazil's sugar cane industry and began trading with the natives for coffee. They brought back trees and seed to Europe which helped start the modern coffee industry there.
Lino Lakes, Minnesota is a small town in the state of Minnesota. The population was 462 at the 2000 census. It is located in Clearwater County. The name Lino Lakes is derived from a Sioux word meaning "shoreline." In the early 1800s, settlers began to move into this area and found that it was well-watered by the Kinnickinnic River. They named their community after Lino Lake which they discovered near their farmstead on December 15, 1849. What followed were years of growth and development for Lino Lakes as people arrived to settle here. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in this community. From its inception, Lino Lakes struggled with many challenges including poor transportation infrastructure and limited resources which led to frequent flooding during winter months. By 1910, however, things had started to improve for the community as new roads were built and water supplies became more reliable. As a result of all these efforts, by 1920 Lino Lakes had reached its current size with over 350 residents living here comfortably. Although many challenges have still been faced since then - such as increased crime rates - progress has been made for this small town throughout its history!
The Lino Lakes area was settled by European immigrants in the late 1800s. The first settlers were Dutch, followed by Swedes and Germans. In 1907, a group of Finnish immigrants moved to the area and started a grocery store. The Lino Lakes Lutheran Church was founded in 1916.
