The Coast Guard has been in operation in Lino Lakes, Minnesota since 1912. The first Coast Guard Station was built on the present site of the Lino Lakes Community Church in 1912. In 1975, the Coast Guard Station was moved to its current location on First Street. The station is used for training and operations of the local Coast Guardsmen and women. In 1992, a gift from then-Governor Jesse Ventura created the Lino Lakes Foundation to support charitable causes near and far in the community. The foundation provides grants totaling more than $1 million each year. Grants have been given to organizations such as autism research, Little League baseball teams, arts programs and Head Start programs. Today, there are two Coast Guard stations in Lino Lakes; one used for training and operations of local coast guardmen and women while the other is maintained as a museum that tells the history of both stations.
