They brought along an amazing assortment of relics, including an old Soviet tank that had been completely restored, a collection of RPG launcher rounds used by Afghan security forces during Operation Neptune’s Spear, an American flag made out of clover leaves given to them by locals “for good luck”, a WWII Japanese submarine bell Murano glass jar (signed by both Japan Prime Minister Toyoda Hideki and President Roosevelt), several pieces of furniture from homes where service members lived while they were deployed (including beds made out of pallets stuffed with straw sleepers), a Russian Smerch gun captured during World War II as well as photos and memorabilia related to their unit including uniforms (one soldier even brought along his own combat uniform!), medals, ribbons etc… It was truly amazing how much content these strangers had crammed into such a small space! A few months later another group came through town on Memorial Day weekend 2015 . This time it was all about giving back! They collected donations from local businesses throughout town and delivered them to USM where they set up shop inside the museum until Monday morning! Over 100 different items were donated ranging from coffee mugs filled with money donated by local business owners all the way down to individual candy bars or soft drinks! It was so great seeing everyone working together towards one goal- making sure we left behind something meaningful for those who serve us abroad!

The first settlement in what is now Lakeville was called "Napa" and was established by Norwegian immigrants in 1854. The name of the town came from a nearby creek, Nephlaem Creek. The city was founded in 1855 by Government troops during the Dakota War of 1862. It lost its charter as a town in 1870 but regained it in 1912. In 1924, the city annexed rural land to the east and south of it, forming a new municipality. Lakeville is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River opposite Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. It is bordered by Unincorporated Stearns County to the north and west, Ramsey County to the south and east, and Oakdale to the southeast. According to The City Beautiful Survey 2006 report from Planner Media LLC., Lakeville has an all-time high level of architectural beauty with over 100 structures that merit admiration for their ornate details or engineering feats including 14 bridges over water features totaling 12 spans (including 5 locks), 10 parks totaling 137 acres (72 hectares), 4 shopping malls totaling 248 acres (116 hectares), 2 baseball stadiums totaling 191 acres (82 hectares) and 1 professional football stadium containing 65,000 square feet (5 hectares). According to Lakeville historian Linda Sorenson's book "The History of Ramsey County" published in 2002 by University of Minnesota Press: " During [the early 1800s], General George Armstrong Custer led Ulysses S Grant’s column through this region on his march across Dakota Territory towards their ultimate destination Nebraska... Colonel John Atherton…owned extensive land hereabouts which he donated for public school purposes.'" In 1856 local residents petitioned Congress for township status because they could not find enough people willing to live there due to lack of natural resources such as water power or transportation available nearby. On July 24th 1857 incorporation papers were filed with Saint Anthony Township Dated: September 15th A/C 1861 [sic] By Me Charles Hutton Atty Gen & Jno J Fenton Esq To All Persons Applicable - This Town Is organized under act Sept 15 1861 By James Wills & myself." The first post office opened at Lakeville on October 3rd 1865 under name Eagan after Jane Atherton who donated land for it ($1 per acre).
