The United StatesArmy Garrison there is known as Ft. Snelling, which is home to 3rd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment (LRT). This battalion was mobilized for deployment to Afghanistan in Oct. 2009 and served out a two-year tour of duty before being relieved on Nov. 1, 2013. Since Ft. Snelling's mobilization in 2014, the battalion has participated in multiple exercises including Southern Illinois University Carbondale's " interoperability drill" and Exercise Iron Helm preparedness exercise with Canada Forces Atlantic Command at Canning Airfield near Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sept. 20-21, 2016; Joint Warrior multinational training event hosted by Fort Worth Army National Guard at Amonkhet Missile Range on July 17-18; combined arms live fire exercise titled Alamo Guardian II located at Highland Resort Golf Course outside of San Antonio TX from Jan 25-Feb 2nd 2017; Saber Strike Training Event at White Sands Missile Range located just east of Albuquerque NM from Mar 8-9th 2017 In addition to its deployments to Afghanistan and Louisiana last year, the battalion also conducted an event called Earth Hour Minnesota which took place on Sunday Aug 8th 2016 from 6:00pm - 10:00pm local time across all five battalions locations within the state of MN consisting of community lanterns lighting up downtowns for an hour during that evening as part of a larger green movement initiative called " ppwr Greetings From The Streets ".

Lakeville is a small, unincorporated community in southwestern Minnesota. It lies on the border of Ramsey and Douglas counties, about 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Hibbing and 16 miles (25 km) northeast of Minneapolis. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. Lakeville is a small town located in Pennington County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saint Paul metropolitan area. The town was founded by Norwegian-American settlers in 1858. The first post office was established in Lakeville in 1859. The town name comes from nearby Clearwater Lake. In 1905, the Duluth and Superior Railway built a line between Duluth and Superior, which passed through Lakeville and other towns on its way to Chicago Illinois. This railroad made it possible for people to get goods they couldn't get away with getting shipped by boat or train. In 1916, the Great Depression caused many businesses to close their doors because of lack of money. However, some people decided to keep going despite the difficulties. They started a grocery store and a flour mill were opened in 1925 and 1927 respectively. In 1933, the first high school was opened in town when Clearwater Valley High School was built on land donated by Drury brothers (a local family). The main industry that has been active in Lakeville for most of its history has been farming; however, there have also been times when manufacturing or construction has played an important role as well such as during World War II when several factories were located here including Wirtz Motors Company which manufactured jeeps for American troops fighting abroad Additionally, auto parts manufacturer Stutzman Corporation had their headquarters here from 1967 until 1998 before moving to Arlington Heights IL Finally, since 1962 there has been a KFC restaurant open inside what used to be an old chicken coop until 2009 when they moved out due to advances in technology
