Coffee has been roasted in Hutchinson, Minnesota since at least 1875. The first coffee roasters in the area were a group of men who operated a small plantation near Watertown. They started Roasting and Shipment Company in 1875, and continued to operate until 1978. In that time, they roasted over 2,000 pounds of coffee each week. The first coffee beans from Hutchinson were brought over by an individual named Wm Hargrave from Boston. He had been traveling through the area and stopped in Hutchinson to purchase some beans for his own use. The miller on the property where he was stopping ground the beans into flour and sold them back to Hargrave. The first store carrying Byron Coffee was opened in 1898 by Augustus Byron II, Sr., son of Augustus Byron I, who ran the business until his death in 1916. In 1903, John Laidlaw opened a grocery store on Goodhue Street which became known as Laidlaw's Cafe after him and his wife bought it from Mr. & Mrs. George Sorge in 1907-08. That year saw the introduction of the world's first machine-ground coffee; this particular machine used burrs to grind out the beans instead of using a mortar and pestle like earlier types of machines did. In 1920, Norma Rae founded Norma Rae Coffee House on Seventh Avenue North which remain open today as one of Twin Cities' most popular tourist destinations for its unique history and delicious cupof Joe's!

Hutchinson, Minnesota was founded in 1845 by John Hutchinson. The town was named after Hutchinson's father, Isaac Hutchison. In 1865, the town became a city. The population of Hutchinson peaked at 27,000 in 1920 and declined to 14,000 by 1930. The population decreased again until it reached 10,000 in 1980. Since then, the population has slowly been declining. Hutchinson is a small town located in western Minnesota on the east bank of the Mississippi River. It is bordered by Ramsey County to the north and east; Clearwater County to the south and west; and Wisconsin Territory to the northwest. Hutchinson covers an area of 12 square miles (30 square kilometers). According to 2010 census data, the population of Hutchinson was 914 people. The history of Hutchinson began with John Hutchinson Sr., who founded the town in 1845 as part of a land grant from President James Ketchum. John Hutchison Sr.'s parents were Isaac Hutchison and Mary Ann Morse Tucker Bemissoe. He died in 1849 before he could build his own home or send his children to college. His widow Sarah married George Washington Carver and they moved into their first house which they built on what is now First Street near Main Street in 1850-51.. They had three children: Sarah (born about 1852), George Washington Carver Jr.(born about 1860), and Anna Seward Carver (born about 1865). After Sarah's death in 1865 her husband married again but this time he left her with two children: Annie Seward Caraver (born about 1870) and Clarence Wickersham Carver III (born about 1880). In 1870-71 there were six families living on First Street: Mr./Mrs./children/son/daughter/husband/wife/. During this time there were no schools or churches so citizens gathered together for religious services from time to time at various places around town such as Wesleyan Methodist Chapel which stood on present day Second Avenue North from Main Street until it burned down during prohibition era violence in 1918-191920 In 1892 Mrs./Mr./son/daughter/. moved out because they couldn't afford property prices anymore due to railroad construction boom that year On vacated lots 1-3Stillman St++ also lost lots+ extensions added later renamed 2nd Ave N side block next door ++ Hwy E & Stillman St++ By 1900 only 3 families still lived here
