The United States Air Force (USAF) has a long and rich history in Hugo, Minnesota. The military service has been present since World War I and the creation of the USAF in 1947. The USAF is one of the most important air forces in the world and its mission is to defend America’s airspace and support its allies. The USAF presence in Hugo began with the establishment of two airfields here – Lowry Field on Lambert Prairie Road and Minot Field on Hickory Valley Road. These fields were used primarily for training pilots and supporting operations during World War I. In addition, Lowry Field was also used as an assembly plant for planes being produced by Boeing Corporation. In 1948, Lowry Field was renamed after General Curtis LeMay, who had commanded USAAF units during World War II. The following year, Minot Field was opened to serve as a Tactical Air Command (TAC) Wing headquarters located at what is now Midway Airport. It was here that TAC conducted combat operations against Warsaw Pact forces during Operation Overlord – the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944. This action helped set up American hegemony over Europe after World War II ended. A number of new facilities were built at both airports during the 1950s and 1960s as part of USAAF efforts to increase efficiency and expand its reach into new areas of operation around the world. One such facility was Lovell AFB adjacent to Lowry Field which became home to TAC’s Third Air Force from 1959 until it disbanded in1993 due to budget cuts within USAFE leadership). Another major renovation project took place at Minot Field between 1962-1963 which added a large hangar capable of housing more than 50 Lockheed L-1011 Super Constellations (Sullivans). At this time, Minot also served as Headquarters for Twelfth Air Force which encompassed NATO members Iceland, Norway, Denmark/Norwayair Soviet Union Territory & Poland including all RAF squadrons operating out of bases within those nations! In support ofOperation Desert Storm hostilities commenced on February 17th 1991 when fighter aircraft from 3rd Fighter Wing flew bombing runs over Iraq targeting airfields providing cover for ground troops engaged against Saddam Hussein’s regime throughout that war; later that day bombers struck Baghdad International Airport resulting in numerous civilian casualties! On October 1st 1990 Magellan Aerospace Industries Incorporated announced plans to build a $150 million aerospace manufacturing center outside Amarillo Texas just east of Wichita Falls TX known then as Gateway Aeronautics Center; this would have been one half mile from Majestic Airlines Shuttle Terminal bringing jobs directly to Wichita Falls! FAA denied Gateway Aeronautics Center construction permit citing environmental concerns however Magellan appealed naming themselvesGateway Aeronautics Center LLC claiming they were not listed as an ultimate owner on file with FAA; this caused some confusion among local aviation circles who thought Gateways parent company may have be involved? Ultimately no evidence could be found linking Gateways parent company or Gateway Aeronautics Center LLC with any nefarious activity however still this event left many citizens feeling uneasy about airport security measures? It wasn’t until March 1997 when newly appointed Administrator Edward Emanuel FlightSafety certified General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon production line located just north east Of Wichita Falls TX - allowing full scale production by General Electric Aviation subsidiary GE Aircraft Co., under license from GD Aviation Holdings Incorporated - finally solving years long mystery surrounding why McDonnell Douglas DC-9 production stopped abruptly near Wichita Falls TX shortly before their final customer delivery date?! On July 15th 2006 NASA awarded President George W Bush a contract worth nearly $2 billion dollars for modification projects associated with sustainment needs related to their space shuttle fleet; these modifications will include replacement parts for enginestainesunique landing gear systemsand othercritical items!! This significant news came just three weeks prior to veteran politician John Kerry becoming president!!! It seems like there are always some big reveals happening behind closed doors involving our nation's military might!!!
