Hopkins is a city in Iowa County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. Hopkins was founded in 1856 and named for Dr. John Hopkins. It became an incorporated city in 1907. The current mayor of Hopkins is Donny Olson. The first settler in what would become Hopkins was George Stephenson who arrived on September 15, 1856. He and his family were the first to live in what would eventually be called Hopkinsville. Dr. John Hopkins arrived to found the Second Presbyterian Church in1857 and soon after started a dispensary for the local settlers which he ran until his death in 1861 aged 53 years old. The town's namesake early doctor also had an impact on its development with many new homes being built as he helped 291 people receive medical care during his lifetime including one lady who received surgery without anesthesia! In 1907, the City of Hopkins merged with then- neighbouring towns of Victoria and Uniontown creating what is now known as Ramsey County, Minnesota!!!
