The final straw came when then-President Gerald Ford vetoed US military aid for Sweden because of their objections to how the Swedish government was aiding Helvetic terrorism. In 1984, American Airlines Corporation donated an airplane hangar at the airport for use by the USAAF during Operation Desert Storm. While this donation was short-lived due to airline industry consolidation within a few years, it is still considered one of the most significant donations made by an American company to any organization during that time period. With over two dozen aircraft currently parked at Minnehaha Airport – more than any other airport in Minnesota – it is no wonder that General LeMay called Hopkins his home town during his retirement years.

Hopkins is a small town in Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It lies in the Ramsey County metropolitan area and is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a history dating back to 1857 when it was named for General George Armstrong Custer. Hopkins was first settled by Norwegian immigrants in 1857 and there were only four residents when the town was platted in 1859. By 1870, Hopkins had over 100 citizens and by 1890 it had an estimated population of 350 people. In 1902, Hopkins incorporated as a city and soon became known as one of the most agricultural towns in Minnesota due to its prolific farming industry. The economy shifted from agriculture to manufacturing during World War II but rapid growth resumed following the end of hostilities in 1945. From 2000 through 2005, Hopkins ranked second among all U.S.-based cities with an increase of 12%. During his time as mayor from 2009-2013, incumbent Rick Nolan declared bankruptcy twice but he bounced back each time after being re-elected with high marks from constituents and government officials alike (the latest such success having been increasing bus service to get residents to work). While some credit Rick Nolan's turnaround strategies including aggressive marketing campaigns that aimed to engage young people living on fixed incomes or who rely on public transportation (such as "Walk Now"), others attribute greater success to a new economic development model Metrocare which focuses on creating job opportunities for local youth while maintaining services like education and health care systems integral to community life

They ran a grocery store until 1901 when they sold it to George Waddell. From 1903 to 1919, Hopkins was known as "the blinking city." In 1920, General Motors began production at the nearby Raytheon plant which would have a significant impact on the community because of its size and number of workers (2,000). The plant created an demand for goods that would not be available from local farmers or merchants due to high transportation costs. This led to increased economic development for Hopkins because different industries could now be found within walking distance of one another without having to travel far away for their goods. The increase in commerce also boosted the economy which by 1931 had reached $1 million annually with over 100 businesses operating in town alone. This growth continued into World War II when the community became processing center for munitions production during World War II-1946; however, after that time Hopkins slowly contracted back into its prewar level of prosperity with few new businesses opening up until 2000 when general aviation began operations at Hopkins Airport making it more accessible to residents and visitors alike

In 1915, the city of Minneapolis annexed Hopkins to its territory. The town continued to grow and by 1930 had a population of over 10,000 people.
