Fridley, Minnesota is a small town in the St. Louis area of Minnesota. The population was 2,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area and is located on the east side of the Mississippi River. The community was founded in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants who had come to America to help build railroads. Fridley's first post office was established in 1855. In 1870, local farmers began marketing their produce through a small store that became known as "The Frying Pan". In 1912, Fridley's incorporation as a village created an opportunity for more businesses to open up and give residents more opportunities for economic development. On October 1, 1916, Fridley became one of only two towns in Minnesota (the other being nearby Edina) to become officially organized as a city when it voted to annex its portion of rural Hibiscus Township. Municipal government changed hands several times over the years until it was reestablished in 1978 as an unincorporated community within Minneapolis-St. Paul City Limits with full powers under City Hall jurisdiction. The current Mayor is Darrell Moulton and his cabinet are: Chief Administrative Officer (CIO), Planning Director/Zoning Administrator (PDA), Building Inspector/ Parks Commissioner (BIPC), Water Utilities Commissioner (WUC), Finance Manager (FM).
