In 1851, Sweden's first immigrant group arrived in what is now Forest Lake from the east: 143 men and boys under the leadership of Jonas Gahrstad and his brother-in-law Samuel Nordlund. They founded a small log cabin on present-day Road 22 just west of town. lumbering became an important industry in this early community, with forested land providing most of the resources needed to build homes and mills. In 1872, a post office was established in Forest Lake; it served as the nucleus for many later communities in Hennepin County. The arrival of railroads produced new waves of immigrants during the late 19th century - this time primarily Germans (many coming via Milwaukee). By 1900, Forest Lake had become one of many German towns struggling through tough times after World War I; however, it revived following World War II with growth in manufacturing and service sectors such as carpentry and machine shops. The post office closed its doors for good on October 7th 1959 due to budget cuts but reopened again on October 1st 1960 under new management by Carlisle Lumber Company owner Earl Jorgenson Jr.. After years of decline that included being submerged beneath floodwaters twice during 2002-2004 Blanco River flooding,ForestLake has experienced recent resurgence thanks to several investment projects including job creation by Carlisle Lumber Company’s parent company DLR Resources Inc., renewed interest from tourism officials looking to bolster local economy while preserving ForestLake’s unique character; as well as donations from individuals/ foundations throughout MN & US who see value within having vibrant & diverse community here! The Village green at Main Street will be open beginning Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend for public use including picnics (non alcoholic), Playschools (excluding 3rd grade), Dog playing areas etc... Most events are open either sunrise or sunset so people can enjoy without being disturbed! There will be some smaller events inside main building throughout summer though... The history behind ForestLake goes back over 125 years ago when Swedes began moving into what would become Hennepin County in search of better opportunities than their homeland back home? That initial migration created a village named after them – "Fjällvallen" – situated along present day Highway 22 between Interstate 35E & Stinson Ferry Boulevard near where Hennepin County State Park is today located off Highway 6 about 5 miles northeast of downtown Minneapolis on scenic rural countryside known locally simply as "Forest Lake". This 'Village Green' still exists todayalbeit with different uses depending on each year...mainly hosting picnics weekends during Memorial Day Weekend free OF CHARGE ($5 donation requested)& various other events happening throughout summer months too! From there things rapidly escalated…literally overnight!! A few pioneers hitched a ride out Westcountry Railroad Depot wagon train arrives bearing logs filled with slate roofing tarps bringing sawmill construction forward full steam ahead—the very first successful mill built outside Northern Minnesota—and soon forests were burning nightly creatingHundreds if not thousands more logging jobs right here right nowright smack dab in town center all thanks to Scandinavian immigrants who enthusiastically embraced Americanindustry culture RIGHT HERE IN FOLKLAKER DOWNTOWN MINNESOTA!!! What could have been….just anotherfailedminnesotan business venture quickly turned into one ofthe largest agricultural booms ever seen here besides adjoining Wisconsin &Iowa too!!
